Went to renew driver's license ONLINE - my first time to renew online. Went to site that said DMV, NC Department of Motor Vehicles, believing it was the official site Therefore I did not read any excess print, I just followed directions. The charge was supposed to be $22 and change. After I did this, I realized I was NOT on the official site - THEN I read the terms and conditions, etc etc and learned it was NOT the official GOVERNMENT. site -- that I had just purchased some kind of information. The terms/conditions SAID that their use of "DMV" etc did NOT mean they claimed to be the gov site, and that I had used this MyDrivers - License site at my own risk. And that some third parties might have access to the information I had submitted. Since I had given my VISA card information, I called my VISA provider today (Jan 29) and blocked the card -- I'll get a new card in about a week. The VISA company did not see a charge for $22 on the card, but one to MyDriver's for $3.00. I blocked it to end my worry about any third parties having access to my VISA acct number. I was angry that I had been tricked into thinking I was on the official gov driver's license renewal site. There should be something illegal about this trickery to get people to sign up for what they sell and leading people into THINKING they are renewing their driver's license -- a deliberate trick. I believe they catch a lot of people with this trick by saying they are the DMV and NC Department of Motor Vehicles. I sent a message to MyLicense explaining what happened and telling them to cancel my "application" and refund any charges to my credit card, but have not heard from them.
