After receiving my confirmation E-Mail, WITH $16.50 SHIPPING AND HANDLING INCLUDED, I saw, on the Car MD website, the same thing, without shipping and handling.

It took over 6 hours of trying to resolve this issue; so, when I finally got someone with at least 5 active brain cells, I cancelled my order; and went back on line, and re-ordered with no shipping and handling.

Then on 10/15/11, I received an E-Mail that my order (w/ shipping and handling) was already credited back to my credit card.

My financial institution showed differently, both, on the phone; and when I spoke with the head of the I.T. department.

I spent over 5 hours after receiving my E-Mail; and it appears to me that this company is guilty of Credit Card Fraud; which is a felony, under the jurisdiction of the United States Dept. of Secret Service.

Secret Service told me that they've received numerous complaints about Car MD.

B U Y E R . B E W A R E . O N . C A R . MD .

They appear to be a scam; and it seems that the reviews are written by members of the scam-artist company, in an attempt to con you into stealing your money.

I did find a corporate number for Car MD; which is 800/544-4124; which is Car Can Solutions in Fountain Valley, CA. And that is a division of Matco Tools.

  • Dear Cliffy44:

On behalf of CarMD.com Corporation, we are concerned by your comments and recent experience. We take what our customers say VERY seriously and are always striving to improve the CarMD experience. Like most retailers and other online merchants, we conduct several offers at the same time to encourage interest on our products. Based on your comments, it appears that you uncovered one of those promotions after placing your first order. The promotion we are referring to is where we offer free shipping to customers that opt to purchase with our single payment plan instead of our standard 3-payment plan. We noticed that you came back and ordered a second time taking the benefit of our free shipping. As of 11-17-11, our records show that you were refunded the full amount for the first transaction and that your second order with free shipping is expected to arrive any day. CarMD.com Corporation is an accredited organization with the Better Business Bureau, so we are unclear on your comment regarding the U.S. Secret Service. In the 20+ years of doing business we have never received a letter or notice from any government agency stating "credit card fraud". However, we will have our attorneys investigate with the U.S. Secret Service, the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission of any complaints so we can clarify and correct them. In reference to the 800 number you speak of, CarMD has no relation to Matco Tools. Our customer service agents can be reached at 1-888-MyCarMD. Again, we apologize for any confusion and hope that you will find CarMD a valuable asset to your vehicle's health and maintenance decisions.

  • I watched CarMD's advertisement on tv & was impressed, so much so that I called & submitted my credit card info, etc to purchase a unit. When I submitted my request to their rep, I opted to buy it by them charging the purchase price in 3 1/3-of-the-price installments of approx $39 per installment. They confirmed to me our understanding BEFORE finalizing the purchase. When I went online, they unexpectedly charged the TOTAL cost of the purchase to my acct in 1 payment. Feeling that they MIGHT BE one of those scam companies who get your bank card info & rip you off, I went to my bank the next morning about the transaction. My bank got their phone number & advised me to call them & cancel the total arrangement, so I did. They canceled the charges. Now, seeing the comments about their "scam" tactics, I'm not sorry I canceled, but I am sorry about not getting the unit, IF it works as they say it does. I guess I'll just have to wait until I see a copycat company offering a similar item who is honorable in backing up their business practices. It's a shame because I'm sure I'm not the only person who would like to have one. In the meantime, I'll just have to go to Advance Auto Parts & get them to do the similar diagnostic readings for free whenever my check engine light comes on. Sorry CarMD, I initially believed in you.
