Was on my computer when a full black screen popped up stating that I had been invaded by malware and that if I turned off my computer I would lose my hard drive. A number appeared on the screen supposed to be Apple Support (I have an I Mac). They got into my computer and took control of the screen. I noticed MyTechBay at the top of the screen and asked why that name appeared when I thought I was connected to Apple Support. They said "we take over jobs that Apple support cannot handle". They showed me that three European companies had entered my computer (not true) and that my firewall was inactive (also not true). By the time this information was received, they had charged me $1000 for "repairs" which I paid with my bank card. I hung up and called Apple Support who stayed on the line and helped me to get them to agree to refund the money. I have an email from MyTechBay stating that they would refund the $1000 "within 7-10 working days.
Didn't happen. Today, I checked with my bank and although I have cancelled the bank card for obvious reasons - it is still open for deposits. MyTechBay said today that they had tried to make the deposit and were refused. According to the bank- this was not true - no attempts were recorded. Today they said they would make the refund in 3-5 working days. If they don't, we will be making a visit to the sheriff and the prosecutor. This is obviously a scam and this is a lot of money to lose.
