I took my 2yr old son to his office for an appointment on 9/27/16 regarding his arm dislocation. When Dr. came into the office the first thing he told me "Did you bring your whole family?". He never introduce himself very unprofessional. He unwrap my sons left arm asking me to hold his fingers it made me feel he was disgusted by my son. He did not change the bandage he wrap him with the same dirty bandage. Then he told me his arm was broken and he needed surgery asap. I was in shock told him ER Doc stated his arm was only dislocated. He toss the radiology report at me rising his voice telling me to read them, that is was from them saying it was broken and the only way to fix it before it got fatal was to do surgery tomorrow. That got me more nervous thinking surgery was going to be so soon (tomorrow). I was stuttering asking him if he can do another X-ray because the ER Doc had try to push the bone back in place and maybe he had fix it. Rising his voice said "I can do 20 x-rays they all will be the same he will still need surgery, if you do not believe on me you can take him right now down stairs to the ER pointing his hand toward the exit door!" I said is not that I am just surprise I do not want him to get surgery he is a baby, Is this surgery risky? with his altered voice he said "all surgeries are risky especially his age."
This got me more worried and nervous I told him "ok let me talk to my husband about it and and will need to ask my boss for days off" Rising his voice and pointed towards the exit door he kept telling me " Just GO NOW TO ER DOWNSTAIRS OR CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL THEY WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING, HE NEEDS SURGERY" JUST GO, GO NOW! GO! He was over reacting, My feelings where so mix and confuse that moment I could not think well. My mom who barely speaks English kept asking me what is going on is he mad? I try to keep my self calm not to worry her, I said yea he just telling me he needs surgery tomorrow" She saw how Dr. Charles J O'Laughlin Jr was reacting and just told me don't sign any papers until you speak with your husband about the surgery. Dr. then just walk out the room without excusing him self. I stayed in the room about two minutes waiting for him to be back. He did not enter the room again. I left the room and went to the receptionist. She said she was going to schedule the surgery for Wed. 28 at 3PM. I said OK I will call you tomorrow morning because I need to talk to my husband about it and ask my boss for days off. While I was speaking to her I realize I was in tears she gave me the box of tissue. Deep in me after the bad experience with Dr Charles J O'Laughlin Jr I could not imagine him doing surgery to my son. My husband and I had the surgery conversation and the whole bad experience with the Doc. and we came to a conclusion to take our son some where else for a second opinion I cry while conversing with my husband and cry at during the night I felt like I had no way out but to have this Doc do surgery because according to him it was urgent and it had suppose to be already done days before when it was just one week pass from his fall of the trampoline. Next day morning I called the office and told the receptionist we will not have the surgery for our son, she ask why I said the Doc was very rude with attitude and I was going to take him to another Doc. She said ok I will let the doctor know and good luck. The whole morning I spend trying to get appointment for asap with Orthopaedic. Until I explain my case to a nurse in Ann Lurie Hosp. they gave me an appointment for Friday 9/30. Either way I was scare with Dr Charles J O'Laughlin Jr conclusion that my son was in need of surgery that same day Wed. My husband and I decided we where going to take our son to Ann Lurie Hospital ER later that same Wed. My Husband calls me at 2Pm telling me the Dr Charles J O'Laighling Jr called him threatening him he was going to call DCFS because this was a mandatory surgery. Dr did not gave my husband a chance to explain the reasons why we did not want this surgery to proceed when Dr Charles hung up the phone on my husband. About 10 pass when my work phone rings it was the receptionist from Dr. Charles J O'Laughling telling me the Dr wanted to speak to him, I place the phone on speaking so my boss and co worker could hear the conversation with Dr Charles. H ask me if I was going to have my child get surgery I said YES but not from you because you are very rude person. He threaten me he was going to report me to DCFS because I did not want him to do surgery on my 2yr old. I said Ok I will also report you. and he hung up the phone on me. I left work exactly at 3PM, about 30 minutes Dr Charles had threat me went to Alexian Brothers Hospital pick up my son's X-rays and try to put a complaint in the Hospital towards the Doc. but I was told I could not because he is an independent doctor and could not help me. He did not belongs to Alexian Bro. Hospital. I left the Hosp. got home by 5PM when 15 minutes after DCFS was knocking my house door. They fully interview me, my husband, my 7 yrs old daughter, mom and 2yr son. I explain the whole story. After they left we took our son to Ann Lurie Hosp ER. we stayed there until 1AM. Results our son does not need no urgent surgery and do not know if he will need a surgery. I still kept and have the appointment for friday 9/30 at 4PM with Orthopaedic. I am still surprise this all happen to me. I please ask this doctor issue to be taking care of. It is not fair I was put DCFS for rejecting my 2yr old to have surgery with some doc I don't think is professional and takes his job adequate. My rights was to find a second opinion and that is what bother Dr. Charles J. O'Laughlin Jr.
