The gentleman who called was of Indian descent, as was evident by his accent. He pulled up my prior information from (what I am presuming to be) past payday loan applications...meaning that some company sold the information to them. Originally, they emailed me about a guaranteed loan for $5K, 36 month repayment, and $150 payment each month. Terms are great and a little too good to be true. When I called them back, he wanted my bank account username and password. Well, no...not giving that out, plus my bank has a third and fourth step with verifications so, even with the username and password, they would have a harder time getting into my account via computer. At any rate, the gentleman said that with the loan, my credit rating would go up to 600, which is not bad, as I am actively working to increase that anyway. However, the verification fee of $1K is nuts. It is akin to money laundering/scammers sending in a check (which turns out to be a fake check) and then wanting the money back via a form supposedly found at CVS, Walmart, etc. So, a RICO charge would be well founded against them.
The scammer used the following telephone number: (716)217-0919
their email address (used to contact me initially): [email protected]
be wary folks.
