Had a new Macintosh (Warranty) issue, so threw a quick search into Google ("Apple Tech Support, IIRC") to pull up the support number to call. Called the number that came up in the box at the top of the Google Search (not in the list, below). Both the Listing and the description led me to believe that it was Apple's Tech Support that I was calling.

In short, the rep I began talking to gave no indication that he was *not* Apple support as I described my issue and began going through "normal" steps to solve said issue. It was only after his steps resulted in a LogMeIn client being downloaded to my Mac that I double-checked the domain that was being connected to (apple.techsupport.com, or something close, but *not* apple.com that I realized that I was being misled). I disconnected my network cable and hung up before he was able to remote, and removed the access software.

Judging from some of the other comments, it sounds as if Geeks Technical Support does, in fact, offer legitimate technical support (albeit for a price), but I have to say that their misleading business practices (They didn't say that they *were* Apple Support, but did not correct me when I assumed that they were, and the "apple.*.com" subdomain takes a second look.)

There's a good chance that if I had allowed the agent to remote into my Mac, that nothing malicious would have happened, but the odds are better that something would have.

My complaint is primarily that they should be more aboveboard with their practices; use geekstechnicalsupport.com (their real domain name) instead of apple.something and answer the phone as "Geeks Technical Support" rather than just, "Support, how can I help you?".
