I was on Facebook scrolling down in the Home news feed. I came across a curious photo and the expla-nation said that this man was the first to live without a pulse. (Okay, so I was dumb. Curiosity ruled.) As soon as I clicked on it I got a blue screen and woman's voice kept repeating, "your computer has a dangerous virus. Please do not restart. Call this phone number immediately". A smaller white screen appeared over the blue one with the same message and the phone number. I called and was told by a technician that my computer was infected with KOOBFACE virus and they would fix it at once. They took 2 1/2 hours doing so. Then said my warranty had expired and best to get one. I went for the three year one.
Thought they were legit until I got a call from my credit card company questioning an invoice. They thought it might be a scam. This caused me to question this company (bills under two different names--one company located in China!) So it is a scam, after all.
Now I'm really confused as all the technicians I spoke with had heavy East Indian accents!
I'm hoping I won't have to pay these scammers; would you believe in Canadian dollars it's $670.00.
