I was online and interrupted by a serious and official-looking onscreen window, telling me not to touch or shut down anything on my computer and to IMMEDIATELY call their posted number, because my computer had a virus. (I had just scanned my computer the day before with my Avast Premium antivirus, that told me everything was running fine and I was completely protected.) And, assuming that I was speaking to a professional from windows or microsoft, I followed his knowledgeable guidance to allow him to set himself up with a window to control my computer, and together see what was happening. I expressed dismay at the "worm" he informed me I had, and I was impressed at his explanation of them. I saw with my own eyes the state of everything that he brought up that showed how unprotected my computer was. He said my current computer's antivirus could not accommodate the current technology any longer. I asked then, what can be done now? He said that they were already working on it and I must move forward with their tech support now. They will repair and install their very latest new secure antivirus. He informed me that their service was the finest, and that my computer would be repaired and I would have no fear from any future virus problems or security. With trepidation, I allowed for the transaction of the lowest offer he made available to me, $200 for a full year, (that had been "discounted," from $249, because I am a disabled senior,) for the phone repair, including a full year of tech service with a year of phone support, plus the year of antivirus installed, along with their "mytech" window. I was also told that my computer would run faster and like new, (yet it still runs the same, just with my old antivirus that I had paid for at the beginning of the year removed, and who the heck knows what else was done to it?) I am on a fixed income, and this really hurts me badly, financially! I was totally defrauded by this outfit, into buying into their service, and I feel very victimized right now. I should have known better. Please, folks..tell your friends to walk away and get advice if an "official" looking warning window pops on your screen and warns you not to touch or turn off your computer until you call a particular number! It looks so legit! Please WAIT and talk to someone you know first! I will update further, because I just now, this evening, had the time to research them further, only to find out that it IS a scam, and that I probably didn't have a worm, or need any repairs, at all! So.. I just have to go lick my wounds right now..but..LET'S SHUT THESE GUYS DOWN!! Any suggestions? It hurts!
