On January 15, 2016, I bought a new car, a 2016 Kia Sorrento, for my Mother from Southside Kia in Jacksonville, Florida. It was sold to us as new, having supposedly only having been used as a demonstrator. It was only very slightly discounted in price, because it had approximately 5,000 miles on it. However, we later found out that this was a FRAUD, as the car had been crashed and supposedly repaired, which is described below.
Further, because of my Mother’s allergies to cigarette smoke, my Father, Young Shon, and I asked the Southside Kia salesman if the car had ever been smoked in and he assured us that the car was never smoked in. The following day after its purchase, my Mother attempted to drive the car to church, but had to stop and pull over became she became nauseous from the smell of cigarettes. After being in the sun for a while, the car wreaked of cigarettes smell. That same day, we found cigarette burns on the leather and multiple paint scuffs and scratches.
The very next day, my Father called the Southside Kia’s general manager, [Moe Aslah] to advise of the cigarette smell , and he said to me, “now that you’ve bought it, you’re gonna eat it.” Our Southside Kia salesman agreed to fix all the problems, so my Father dropped off the car for about a week at the dealership for odor removal and repairs. My Father picked the car up to find that the car still smelled like cigarettes and now, the horn would not work. My Father dropped off the car again for a few days for repairs and later picked up the car to find nothing had been fixed. Again, my Father dropped off the car at the Southside Kia for repairs and the vehicle was kept for over a week. While driving the vehicle home, my Father found that the front of the car was shaking badly, so he pulled over to see why and found that the front bumper was cracked and almost falling off.
My Father dropped off the car at Southside Kia again for repairs. Two weeks without so much as a call from Southside Kia as to the status of the repairs, my Father stopped by Southside Kia to see what the repair status was. My Father was yelled at, cursed at and called obscene names by the Southside Kia general manger, [Moe Aslah] in front of other customers and employees, and [Moe Aslah] yelled that he wouldn’t release the car for another 6 months. My Father walked over to the Southside Kia service department to speak with the technician working on my Mother’s car. The Southside Kia general manager, [Moe Aslah] walked up to us, took the technician to the side, and told the technician not to work on the car right away.
My Father picked up the car the following week and asked for an itemized list of parts used in the repairs. On the print out given my Father was the following language, likely internal notes, stating that the car was previously wrecked:
**********************************
2.29.16 CAR IS HERE. WAS
JOEL\’S DEMO THAT WAS WRECK
THEN SOLD TO THE CUSTOMER. CAR
IS GETTING REPAIRED CUSTOMER
IS HIGHLY UPSET WITH SALES.
***********************************
Southside Kia knew this car had been wrecked and it fraudulently sold it to me as new. I contacted the DMV and they said there was nothing they could do since Southside Kia also illegally failed to re[port the wreck. The DMV recommended that I write directly to you. Kia cars are high-quality, affordable cars, but this dealership, Southside Kia, is severely ruining your brand name. My Father should have never been treated with such blatant disrespect. I hope you take action against this dealership.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
