We recently had our first experience as consumers of Thumbtack's services.

Due to extreme problems with a provider recommended by Thumbtack (which included police action), we have been in contact with Thumbtack regarding their practices. We now have extensive first-hand knowledge of their lack of interest in, or responsiveness to significant, documented concerns about a recommended provider.

Our biggest concern is that, early in our encounters with this provider, a computer repairman, the provider insisted we write a review for him on thumbtack.com. About two weeks after we wrote a positive review, we gave him another computer to diagnose. The provider demonstrated actions (after our review was posted) including fraud and property theft of $250 for software he sold us which expired after 30 days.

We explained the sequence of events to thumbtack.com. Our request was to remove our positive review or allow us to addend it or write a new review including the information we have since learned about the provider. Thumbtack denied this request on multiple occasions. As people of ethics, we are uneasy about having a review stand that recommends the services of a provider we know is dishonest and believe would prey on future customers.

We also feel concerned that Thumbtack is willing to continue to recommend a provider who has previously stolen from and threatened us. Our consciences dictate we report our concerns, for the safety of potential future Thumbtack customers. This company has demonstrated to us a willingness to recommend predatory providers to unsuspecting consumers.

Additionally, Thumbtack will not allow consumers who have experienced significant problems with a provider to include that new information on any previously posted review. This denies consumers the right to honestly represent their provider experience and warn other consumers about fraudulent or dishonest providers.
