I was contacted by this person on Match.com. He said he his name was Smart Bachman, he was a retired contractor and living in Silverlake, CA, recently moved from Denver, CO. He had a New York phone number which he claimed he had kept because of the number of contracts he had there (646-504-3627) At first when I called the number the voicemail said his name was Jim, and it didn't sound like his voice. When I asked him about this he said his middle name was Jim. After that his voicemail was blank, just a little breathing and that's it.

He said he grew up mainly in Australia with his Mom, and his Dad had died in DUI in the last year, yet his accent was not Australian and English didn't seem to be his first language (it more of a German tone to it) He claimed to have a sister named Kate that lives in the UK, and no children. He was divorced since 2006 from his high school sweetheart. He sent many photographs of him with family, his greyhound (Billy), etc., many camera phone selfies, etc. He professed love very quickly, within only a week of texting and conversing by phone. He asked for my address to send me a "gift" early on but I was only willing to give my work address. Nothing was ever sent.

Just before we were supposed to meet, he had to fly to Ottawa as the condo he had been trying to sell had an interested buyer and he needed to meet with them, do paperwork, etc. This was a condo he supposedly owned with his ex-wife. Meanwhile he had sent me a video of him going through his parents garden, agin this person's voice was not the same as the man I had been talking to, and furthermore referring to his parents living in East Vancouver, versus Australia like he had claimed before. His stories of his past were already full of inconsistencies. After being there for a couple of days, he said he had unpaid mortgage and taxes that he needed to pay before the property could enter escrow, as the buyer wanted a free and clear title. He said he owed $13K, but had $6K and needed another $5250, and could I please loan it to him? Understanding that he could just take less on the asking price to pay the mortgage in escrow, I refused. He continued to assert that the money had to be paid first. I wasn't buying it. Then he said he found an old contracting job that he was owed on, and they were willing to wire him the money but it needed to go into a Chase bank account, which he didn't have. He asked me to open an account for him that they could wire funds into. I knew that too, was not true. Again, I refused. He was never heard from again. I submit these experiences in the hope that other woman will find these vultures on a google search and get wise.
