I sent $4.95 for a "free trial offer" of an e-cigarette on 04/17/2014. I carefully scoured the website for hidden charges before I did it, as I always do. Did not see anything that said they were enrolling me in a monthly plan. They had not sent me anything additional in the mail. On 05/01/2014, they took $119.95 from my credit card. Unfortunately, I never noticed they had done that until just now!
On 06/08/2014, they took $94.90 off my card. This time I DID notice, and called to complain. They asked if I had received something in the mail from them. I did recall a small envelope which I thought I had discarded unopened. (I had already discarded the "free sample", because it was awful.) They explained that by ordering the sample, I had agreed to a monthly debit, and that it was under "terms and conditions" buried somewhere on their website. After a lot of yelling back and forth, they agreed to give me half my money back. On 06/25/2014, they credited $45.00 to my account. By then, I had located the unopened package in a drawer, and returned it to them. I think they credited me another $20.00.
I was just now scouring my old online credit card statements, looking for something else, when I discovered the $119.95 charge they got away with. In that case, they never had even mailed me anything to even TRY and justify the charge.
