I was called to say I'd won a free makeover and photo shoot for myself and a friend. £100 deposit was required in case of a no show, which was fully refundable, OR to be offset against any photo purchases I might want to make, though there was to be no obligation to buy.
The whole experience was amateur and rushed - really poor hair and make up by one quite surly man, then taken to a tiny basement to change, and have photos taken, in really cliched poses.
We were shown the photos, which neither of us liked AT ALL. But we were manipulated, guilted and strong-armed into buying a bunch for £300. I said that I'd been told we were under no obligation to buy the photos if we didn't like them, but Kevin, the guy doing the photoshopping and selling, said this was not the case, and wouldn't even let us buy one or two for a smaller fee - we had to get a set.
We came out feeling embarrassed and taken and advantage of, and we've never shown those pictures to anyone.
I implore you - do not go there, because if you have any kind of decency, they will effectively rob you. But if you do, give them hell, and certainly don't entertain what felt like a hostage situation while they give you the hard sell. Underhanded cowboys!!!
