We have ordered electronic goods in the value of US $ 598 from David Lee, Manager, HK Global Talent Technology Ltd in Xiamen, China, based on his advertizing on Alibaba. We paid via Western Union.
David Lee re-assured me he would deliver the goods by Express Post to my hotel in China, near Beijing, where I was on a business trip from Oct 11 to 21, 2011. I repeatedly e-mailed him to remind him about my order because no parcel had arrived. Almost 10 days later, he responded that there was a "delay." I then asked him to send my parcel directly to my address in Canada. A week later, he gave me a tracking number for DHL that never showed on DHL website. After repeatedly e-mailing to David Lee, he informed me that the parcel has been detained by Chinese Customs for a 40% sales tax which I should pay (presumably directly to him). In my 20 years of working with Chinese factories, I have never heard of such an export tax. I pointed this our to Mr. David Lee, asked for a refund but have not heard from him since. In the forums on Alibaba, there are similar complaints about him.
