I was contacted telephonically by someone claiming to be a Microsoft technician, who said he could see damage being inflicted by hackers on my PC because I had not renewed my antivirus subscription. When I said that I had never received any notification, he explained that the notifications had been blocked by the hackers, and fooled me into thinking - by explaining what he could "see" on my pc - that he was genuine, and showed me how to get into that part of my operating system which showed the alleged evidence that he was looking at.

He was very persuasive, and convinced me to allow him access via teamviewer, to immediately stop the hacker/s, and then convinced me to complete an on-line application to pay for a "life-time's" protection. I should have realized it was too good to be true (he explained that it was in my local currency of SA Rands, but when my bank informed me that USD had been debited, I realized I may have been conned.

In many subsequent phone calls (+702993938 - he always phoned me), he promised to reverse the charge, and asked me instead to make payment via "Western Union to the address 1st Fl 133 Musroof Rd, West Bengal to a David William" (not too sure of spelling)of the correct amount. Naturally I refused, realizing by now it was a con, and then stopped taking his calls.
