After completing a brief survey for Macleans magazine I was directed to a website for a supposedly "free" prize. Typical prizes included gym memberships, ipods, and smartphones. It was administed by an outfit called Bidoubids. The only charge I would have to pay would be a $3 delivery fee. Since I had good faith in Macleans, a reputable, national magazine, I chose the smartphone. Two days later, however, I see that my credit card has been charged $3 as well as $67.01, apparently for the phone. This is outright deception, there is no one to contact to cancel my prize, and there is some chance that no prize may ever be delivered. I am shocked and appalled that a good brand-name magazine like Macleans would stoop to such a miserable tactic to entice readers. They have truly achieved the opposite. My deep disappointment remains, and I am sorry for the subscription I gave them. It will, however, be my last.
