On 22 January at about15.00 hours GMT I contacted Omnitech (believing them to be part pf Microsoft) with regard to problems with losing the arrow button at the bottom of my scroll bar. I spent over an hour with your technician Martin and allowed him remote access to my computer. To cut a long story short he told me that my machine was so badly infected with “polymorphic viruses”, which escaped detection in my routine scans with reputable anti-virus software, that unless I allowed him to fix the problem at once I would suffer all manner of catastrophes. He also guaranteed to fix the scroll bar problem, also caused by these viruses. I was told the cost would be £199. This was later reduced, in desperation, to £99. I was, by now, becoming suspicious of the “hard sell” and declined his offer. I later found that the scroll bar problem was a result of changes made by Google Chrome and could not have been changed by Martin.

  • As these allegations are posted anonymously, so, obviously we are not in a position to offer any comments as to what actually, if anything transpired. We provide cost-effective support to thousands of satisfied customers every day and swiftly address any problems or misunderstandings a customer might have.

We need more details from this person as to why he/she allegedly contacted us, his/her email address and on what date he/she came in to us for help, so that we can retrieve the recordings and investigate the alleged issue. Generally, our technician runs a free diagnosis, using a respected third-party diagnosis tool on the customer’s computer to uncover the root of the problem as the initial troubleshooting step. We might have checked the customer’s computer and it showed some system errors, broken registry entries and polymorphic viruses and that scan result was conveyed to the customer. We cannot create a fake scan result.

Our process is very transparent. The customer can watch and control every movement of our technician and, can terminate the remote control by a single click. We also record every keystroke of our support process. Once customer revokes the remote access, our technicians cannot re-establish the connection on their own without customer’s assistance/grant, so that simply did not happen. Obviously, we are not related to Microsoft and we are a fee-based independent online tech support organization. We identify ourselves, clearly, on initial contact. This person certainly misunderstood our process.

As always, we are here to assist people who truly need our experienced technician’s help regarding their any software related-issues at any time, day or night.
