In June 2012 my mother was having a problem with a new Dell computer which we had purchased for her birthday. My husband had told me he had purchased support with it because of my mother's age. I couldn't find a phone no. for Dell in the computer's paperwork, so I googled Dell tech support and unfortunately clicked on the first link which came up. I called the phone number and the representative led me to believe he was with Dell and claimed to look up whether we had paid for support and told me we had not, so I gave him my credit card number to obtain support. It turned out later that the problem was with Comcast's lines to my mother's home. I had just gotten off the phone with Comcast who at that point was claiming it wasn't them, it must be the computer. They turned out to be wrong. After charging me around $175 for the support, MyTechSupport's technician started having me fool around with the computer, messing up the registry and asking me to try things which even I knew were not related to the connectivity issue and could make things worse. They would not let me off the phone when I protested and eventually I had to hang up on them. So okay, my big mistake. Then about 9-10 months later this $9.99 charge shows up on my credit card billed under some other but similar name. I actually didn't notice until November 2013 when they started billing this $9.99 twice in the same month from two different but very similar sounding names. Then I went back and looked at statements and found they had been doing that once a month since the previous April. I contacted my credit card company and protested the charges and was refunded. Then for the first time ever, today, 12/7/13, I get this email from techzilla (another new name) saying thank you for my $9.99 payment. My subscription has been automatically renewed. I emailed back and said you have never been authorized. I get two auto replies ([email protected] in Costa Rica? although the email name says Jacob Goodstein (ha ha good) and [email protected]) saying they are out of the office and a bunch of bounces to various people @mytechsupport.org. Now I will contact my credit card company again to protest these charges. These people are crazy to think they can do this. After the credit card company, my next email is to the attorney general's office in Florida.
