I called for a harp 2.0 loan. they asked for me to give my credit card for $195 which they said I would get back. Later they told me that I should not be surprised when I see a $495 charge pending on my credit card and that I would never be charged for that. I called again to ask and they assured me that I would not be charged $495. I was charged that amount on my credit card. I looked over my paper work and see that they slipped in a rate lock in for 30 days and charged a non refundable fee of $495. I had signed it not knowing this is what it was for and they highly pressured me to sign all documents and return them within 48 hours. I have put a dispute request with american express. I was also given incorrect info that it was a harp loan and in fact it was a conventional loan. They also told me no appraisal would be necesary and yet put the appraisal fee in the paperwork. I asked them to cancel the application process before they had collected all paperwork they needed from me. I am so upset that I was deceived and misled. When I asked the other person handling my paperwork I asked why the appraisal fee was listed and she said it was a mistake but did not bother to correct it. What can I do to fight this since now there is a paper with my signature on it that says I allowed this $495 fee to be charged to my card simply for applying for a harp loan 2.0? This is half of my monthly social security.
