Beware of the Derek Bride scammer(s). I meet a guy on Match.com in July 2013. He is very attractive and sent me an email message to begin communicating with him via his yahoo email. For approximately three weeks we communicated back and forth via yahoo email and messenger getting to know one other. He does have a couple Facebook profiles as well, but it does not seem to be very active, just a few friends and same pictures of him in which he sent me. He is also on another site wayn.com (flags waving). He stated he was originally from Kingston, Jamaica (doesn't look like it - flag) and lived in New Orleans, La after moving to the states as a teenager. He states he attended Loyola University, but did not tell me what high school he graduated (more flags). He indicates he was an independent architect design contractor and he was working on building a 5-star hotel in Chad, Africa (RED FLAG). Over the course of these three weeks, the scammer(s) express himself very affectionately and professed his love for me (BIG RED FLAG). At first I was flattered, I thought I meet a guy really looking to settle down and was looking forward to his return to the states, but then I became very suspicious because of what he was saying especially regarding living in New Orleans since that is where I am from (RED FLAG)! He indicated his parents both were killed in Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but he made it out to relocate to San Antonio...(RED FLAGS)!! He indicated he had no other living relatives and no friends (Lawd help me, FLAGS FLAGS FLAGS) He sent pictures of a job site where a hotel was being constructed that appeared to be in Africa. I am not sure if these scammer(s) are using this gentleman's picture or it is actually him. I was beginning to get leery about this guy due to some inconsistencies in his conversations and the fact he was so in love with me but never seen or spent on moment with me (RED FLAGS BLOWING). I asked him for a telephone number to contact in in San Antonio and he gave me this number which was supposed to be his number in Africa, 2348092488711 (obviously a wrong number). I thought it was very odd that this man who was so in love wouldn't give me his number in the states (RED FLAGS). I asked him when he was due to return to the states and he indicated he couldn't tell be because his contract job was not done yet. On July 22th the scammer(s) indicated he was robbed going to the job site and needed $600 to get back to the states (who pays for a partial plane ticket and only $600, PLEASE). He sent me a picture of an obviously fake JP Morgan created slip in the amount of $850,000.00 and indicated he would pay me back my money plus interest later in this week once he returned. I have seen many Dateline and 20/20 news stories to know this was definitely a scam. I told him I had a friend who could help him return to the states however, I needed his SS#, DL#, home address and telephone number, and his bank here in the states. He became enraged as said to forget helping him because he was not going to give out this information via the internet. I played along with the scammer(s) and asked how I could get him the money anyway. He said Western Union money transfer (RED FLAGS) and gave me this information… this was supposed to be the travel agent he was to purchase the remainder of his ticket from. He said the name of the agency was Lagoon Travell (his spelling) Agency, his agent was David Tobi, Ikeja-Lagos Nigeria. I asked him for a telephone number for the agency and he gave me the same number he gave me before. I responded to him and said I was not going to send him anything and I knew he was a scammer. I told him if he ever tried to contact me again, I would seek legal actions and I was reporting his profile as fraudulent to Match.com. I have not had any contact with him since July 22nd. Please beware of this name and all the rest of the no good scammers in the world. DO NOT SEND PEOPLE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY EVER!!!

  • Dear C,

Could you send me the pics he sent you. I just started chatting with him (or someone with same name). He popped up while I was on Wayn & wanting to chat. So agreed. Totally different story, he says he's from Berlin, Germany & moved to states 4 yrs. ago. Has a son? I just want to know asap if this is the same person. I'd rather know now than later. Thank you for posting this.
