BEWARE! Insurance Companies now have the right to remove beneficiaries from your policy. It happened to us and it could NOW happen to you. As I complained approximately a little over one and a half years ago when my daughter a teacher in State of Georgia School System passed away. She had an insurance policy with MINNESOTA LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY. When we attempted to redeem the policy that my daughter had, we were told that there was no beneficiary on the policy which was a LIE. After contacting the Georgia Insurance Commissioner the beneficiary sheet was presented. We then requested that it be paid as my daughter designated, but we were told by the insurance company that the sheet had been made null and void and the policy would be paid as the Insurance company decided. The Insurance company refuse to respect or honor my daughter's wishes as if she was not sane of mind. They refused and stated, because she was an employee of the State of Georgia that the state gave them the right to remove the beneficiary from the policy if the policy owner did not upgrade their beneficiary. I could not accept that rationale because I thought that whomever you chose as a beneficiary while alive was to be obeyed on your death, but I found out that is not so. I have tried every avenue to resolve this discrepancy, even sent e-mails to the Governor of Georgia but to no avail. In order to get some semblance of closure, but never agreement in our family we will have to settle it as if my daughter had no mind or intelligence of her own. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR POLICY BENEFICIARY BEFORE TO LATE. Because you cannot speak after death.
