So excited to join the Rosetta Stone family, I went online to order the product. Under the Rosetta Stone website was another called the Official Rosetta Stone Outlet ( http://www.rosetta-outlet.com/index.php?main_page=account ). Complete with sunny yellow background and same pictures as the regular RS website. I figured it HAD to be ligit. I ordered the Rosetta Stone Espanol Level 1-5 for $149.00 (figuring it was an older version) and waited excitedly to receive it. This was the year to learn spanish!
A few weeks later, a box arrived at my door from China claiming a total charge of $394.00! The contents of the package claimed 'shoes' and right there, I knew I was in trouble.
The tag states it's from the Shanghai Yu Zhi Li Trading Co, and was sent from Gao Xu Feng, which is rather funny considering the expression "Shanghai'd". I opened the package, wondering why they sent me shoes, and it was my complete Rosetta Stone Spanish Learning Level 1-5. The box and content looked perfect, but the packaging had me worried, so I went to my credit union and suspended activation on the visa card I had used and ordered a new one, just to be safe. I had been charged $155.00.
I was busy for a week or two and today finally sat down to start to learn Spanish - something I've wanted to do for a long time. The applications disc downloaded perfectly, and I was on my way.
Unfortunately, I hit a major roadblock at disc 1. It wouldn't download and neither would any other disc I got. I called Rosetta Stone's help desk and they instructed me through the process, but it still failed. I was transferred somewhere else and was told I bought from a crook. I needed to talk to Visa fraud.
I called my credit union Visa to dispute my charges, but they said that because I received the product, they could not refund my money and I would have to dispute it with the company that sold it to me. Yeah. The website no longer works and my money is gone. No bueno.
Clearly they pirated their products and sold them to me and probably many others under the false claim of being an 'Official' Rosetta Stone site.
That's all I know, aside from the fact that I will no longer be learning Spanish this year since I wasted my money instead.
Thank you, I know it has nothing to do with Rosetta Stone. Good luck catching the criminals. Yeah, I know there probably is no Trading Company and you can't do anything about piracy criminals in China. Just thought I'd share anyway.
