A young man came to the door and said he was collecting money for magazine subscriptions for disabled veterans Stated that my next door neighbor had purchased several and since my neighbor was a vet, I "assumed" the story was factual. While walking my dog, I happened to run into my neighbor and asked him about the young man and he said that he had chased him away from his home; not realizing he was continuing on to my house. I immediately went on line and found the website about this organization and contacted my back on-line and did a stop payment on the check. Fortunately, I was able to not be out of pocket with this scam.
