International boundaries

I bought a prepaid vanilla visa card (75$ + 5.50$ activation fee) in Canada and found out it was not able to be used internationally (can not be used in Canada or Mexico, only in the U.S.) as of March 31st, 2012. I did not know this at the time of purchase. I was confused on why stores such as 7-eleven are still selling these cards on Canadian shelves when they are only able to be used in U.S.

Things I did to try to get help.

- Ask the store (7-eleven for refund)
- Ask manager of store for help.
- Call customer service on website of vanilla visa to ask for refund/replacement.
- Call customer service on back of card.
