In December I went online to look for gold per gram pricing of 18K gold scrap. I found several sites, one of which was the British Gold refinery- and I sent in 21 gms of 18K gold scrap (Saudi Arabian gold). I recieved the amount calculated on their website for this gold without a problem. And- as stated within days.
However, my second lot of scrap 18K Saudi gold went all wrong from the start. I sent it Dec 21, but had not heard back at all. I found that my package had been recieved Dec 24 2012, and the company was closed until January 3. I emailed the company and I called them at 0800 014 8222. January 7 I heard back via telephone- and was told they had a backlog- and would get back to me in 24hours. I did hear back but days later. It was astonishing- I realised I was being scammed on this call- as he claimed the gold was only 70% not 75% (still a high value at 17K gold-)but he offered a significantly low price- and not at all in line with what is advertised online as a price to be paid. Over £200.00 less.
Their on line calculation of 23.5 gms of 18K (75%) gold was valued at £587.00. Dec 21, 2012- so I sent my scrap gold hallmarked 18K on a ring, and bracelet- but the scrapped earrings were not hallmarked(common of Saudi jewellery)
Their on line states any gold, any form or condition. My gold is from Saudi Arabia and so is never lower than 75% gold- no one cares to lose a hand over gold marketing.

The man at British Gold Refinery stated that it was tested at 70% and that they took a gm off due to white stones removed. Leaving 22 gms. Fair enough- but even at today's value on their site promise £549.46 Even if they took a gm off for content it still comes to £524.58. I was terribly upset to be told I would be getting £350.00 only. As I had company with me at the time, I could not express myself- and accepted under protest- the offer.
However, going online proved this man was holding back over £200.00 and should not have done so. 14K gold at 21 gms is £407.97. Definately scammed!!! I have emailed the company- as this was my second lot of 18 K gold I sent- the first lot held true to the online quote (not estimate) for my gold and paid £500.00 for 21 gms of 18K gold. So I did not expect to be scammed for the second lot. But I was.
This company should not be doing business like this- they should state they pay jewellery store prices for scrap gold- not refinery prices.
If you can retrieve the £237.00 owed on the gold, I would appreciate it.
Best wishes
Sandra Harriss
