Tech representative, claiming to be from MSN, said they had received numerous error reports from my computer, and that it was about to crash. Although they didn't respond satisfactorily to my questions about authenticity of heir claims, I finally let them "refer" me to GCC.
They asked me to give them access to my computer, to "test" it. They showed me, on my computer, the results, and urged me to purchase protection that would be better and faster than Norton. I finally agreed to purchase their lower-price one-year product, rather than "life-time" coverage, the they installed the program. I had asked them to send me hard copies in the mail of the agreement--they did not. They facilitated acceptance of the charge on my credit card.
Operation was greatly slowed down, and I complained. They called often--each time I complained. They later(May 11)said I needed further coverage to speed up my operating time. This was facilitated, by them. through another credit card. Soon after, I deleted as much as I could of this service, and stopped using it. They frequently called at midnight, demanding that I go to my computer to let them help. I refused, saying I wanted my money refunded.
One phone call said they were closing all operations in the US, and wanted to give me my money back. They sia it would be returned to my credit card. When they called back, I told them it hadn't been credited. I asked for a check in the mail, which they said they could not do.
Instead, they hooked me up with Western Union, and "tried to facilitate the return of my money. This request was denied, and then I saw, in the upper right-hand corner, an attempt to have an amount in excess of $800. SENT TO THEM BY ME. I immediately concluded any connection with Western Union. In another phone call, and then on live chat because I am hard of hearing, they offered all kinds of excuses.
They still callo, say they can't write a check. They say some of the calls are b y "scammers" and want to get into my computer to stop them. In the most recent call, when I repeated that I wanted my money back and did not want to hear from them, the only way they could do that was if I "logged on to my computer" which I have repeatedly refused to do.
The credit card company(one of them) said there was nothing they could do because I had given GCC the credit card number.
Sometimes I have had the feeling that they are still "there" on my computer. There has been a flurry of virus threats stopped by Norton since the last phone call, and I have purchased a new computer.
I have informal notes I have taken, and copies of the live chat.
Please help! I am also filing a complaint with the NYS Attorney General. but do not expect them to be able to get my money back.
