The People's Chemist sells health supplements. They list the ingredients but refuse to disclose the amount of each ingredient so it is impossible for a user and his doctor to balance with other supplements and/or pharmaceuticals. Also impossible to calculate side effects.

When I raised this issue with them I received a terse reply: 'We don't divulge our formulas. Return for refund.'

Problems with that:

1. I want to use it but cannot use it safely without knowing the amounts. I've been buying supplements for years from many different companies and have never found one that covers up the amount of each ingredient.

2. Not divulging amounts means the product could be filled with the cheapest ingredient and only have token amounts of the other ingredients.

3. Their return policy is refund less 20% [most unusual for supplement companies to impose any penalty] AND buy pays the postage. Return postage for overseas users can be very high. In my case over $50. When I queried this cost to me through no fault of my own I received another terse reply: 'You pay.'

Potential buyers should not buy products from this company until they comply with normal industry standards of information and stop this potentially dangerous policy.

  • This anonymous complainer was given a full refund by The People's Chemist BEFORE this post was even written, therefore no damages were suffered, yet this person filed this complaint anyway.
Natural supplements do not have side effects - only pharmaceutical drugs do. Our formulas are proprietary, but the ingredients are listed in the standard nutritional label on the side of every bottle.
Every single person who has purchased this product has used it safely with no problems. We receive many unsolicited testimonials to this fact, DAILY.
Not divulging our formulas is the only way we can protect our unique product. Mother Nature cannot be patented, which is why pharmaceutical companies don't make them. There are numerous examples of this throughout the entire world: Coca-Cola, Red Bull, 5 Hr Energy, Pepsi, etc. Ingredients, yes. Formulas, no.
Our products are the MOST effective on the market as any one of our fans will attest.
Our return policy is the industry standard.
This person lives in New Zealand and was charged a standard shipping rate of $42. This is actually lower than the actual shipping rate WE paid as a company, however we didn't charge this person any additional amount. International shipping can be quite high.
A policy that is "potentially dangerous" is a ridiculous exaggeration - a policy is simply a policy. A policy is only dangerous if you agree to follow it and then decide you don't want to later - like speeding in your car.
The bottom line is, this buyer purchased a product called Joint FX (see getjointfx.com), to soothe joint pain. It specifically states on the product that it needs to be taken for 6-8 weeks, as well as on the website. This person took it for a week, so of course, did not receive any benefit.
Not only was he refunded his money, but he was told he can KEEP the product, to save him the cost to ship it back.
I guess you just can't please everyone...
    This is true,
    Jeff Milano
    CEO The People's Chemist

  • I don't know how anyone can say natural ingredients don't have side-effects. I have taken some of their products and had headaches, intense stomach pain, and agitation that made taking them not feasible. I discussed these issues at the time with the owner of the company, Shane Ellison. This is not necessarily an issue with their products, but the way MY body reacted to them (which is what side effects are all about). Every body is different, and existing metabolism, allergies or other medical conditions always leave the door open for side-effects. Not saying that the concerns anonymous stated are valid, just saying its ridiculous for a CEO of a supplement company to make statements such as "Natural supplements do not have side effects". He is either uninformed, confused about what a side effect is, or simply not being truthful.

I also think that his comment about anonymous not giving the product enough chance to work as described, I wonder how he could do that. Here is the return policy I received in a recent email from their "customer service" team. I put customer service in quotes, because it was the most inflammatory reply I have ever received from a company in all my years. That aside, here is their policy:
We owe it to you to give you a no-questions asked, no lose guarantee! After all, the entire supplement and weight loss industry is FULL of scams and shams. And I want you to know that ThePeoplesChemist is different. I want you to know that our knowledgeable staff is here to work with you, not scam you. I want you to know that we are here to help make sure you are using the products correctly, as intended, along with healthy lifestyle habits. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your TPC products, send the remaining product back within 30 days for a refund (minus 20% for handling fees). No questions asked.

How does a person give a product 6-8 weeks on a 30 day guarantee?

  • Just for the record, here is a sample of their "second to none" customer service.

"We get hammered with thousands of emails per day and we do our best to answer all of them, but we can't answer ALL of them at the same EXACT time or immediately. The autoresponse below helps answer some of the more common questions, to save us some time to handle some of the less common questions - Why don't you stop being lazy and try reading it?"

Pay particular attention to this part [the CSR is telling me I should have noted this section of the auto response I was sent]: To all others: If you send spam, hate mail or suffer from "The Whine Flu" and complain too much, you will be deleted from our customer database so that we can save time for our top fans who are actively living young.

At least give us a chance to answer an email - Christ! - you JUST sent your FIRST message 20 mins ago, before you followed up with this whining...

Try this BS with Amazon or EBay or General Motors or Home Depot or your local coffee shop - Do you buy coffee? - Do they provide you with SUPERIOR support on anything, whenever you want it, immediately, for FREE?"

I don't know about you, but when I purchase a supplement from a company that, to use their own words, "We are a high-end, natural medicine company, for the select few who are able to make bigger investments into their health.", I expect easy to access, respectful phone support to be a part of the deal. I don't know about the places they suggest I go, but the other "high end" suppliers I deal with would never even consider speaking to me like their service reps do. In follow up emails, their rep told me I had lied about numerous things, and then told me if I continued to voice my concerns, I would be terminated. His actual words: "Stop. Now. Last warning." I replied I would not do business with them again if it would save my life. Their response: "We will no longer accept orders from you." They fired me after I fired them. Go figure.
