Yesterday I received a letter from "Citi Financial" mailed in a nondescript envelope having no return address from the UK. It was addressed to me correctly, even down to my middle initial. The latter was spooky, if not scary. Enclosed was a letter saying that I was entitled to a sum of $50,000 if I would deposit the enclosed check for $2,950 to my bank and then send via Western Union a "tax payment" to a "tax officer" at an odd looking London address (with no postal code included).
I was advised to call a toll-free number to learn about instructions.
