There was a phishing scam posted to a website here in Utah called KSL.com for a job advertising for Pepsi products with vinyl branding. Somehow I fell for it and quickly realized it was a scam. There have not been any charges as of yet. Here is the email:

The concept is fairly simple. Advertising space on billboards along busy roads and highways is limited and in some places not allowed at all. It's possible, however, to reach many of those people another way. Companies advertise on the outside of cars to reach those same people. The problem is that purchasing an entire fleet of cars for an advertising campaign can be overly expensive, so a solution was developed.

We seeks people -- regular citizens, not professional drivers, You must be over 18, have no serious traffic violations or criminal record-- to go about their normal routine as they usually do, only with an advert of any of the companies we are advertising their product pasted on your car.

Our company Galaxy hiring Ltd is one of the most innovative CANADA based Advertising agencies with clients all over the world. We have a target to advertise so many products for a number of companies mostly in USA, UK and EUROPE as a whole and we also have representatives in these regions.

The ads are typically decals of a mini (PEPSI logo), also known as "auto wraps," that almost seem to be painted on the vehicle and which will cover any exterior small portion of your car's door surface, It's car wash and sunlight proof, does no harm to bodywork and can be removed at any time without damage, this promotes our professionalism with a perfect touch, so you need not worry about insurance.

Pepsi asked us to do the full package of creative and graphics on Partial mini logo. They needed something classy and punchy while staying within the boundaries of existing marketing material. Our auto wrap results turned out fantastic.

What does the company get out of this type of ad strategy?

Lots of exposure and awareness. The auto wraps tend to be colorful beautifully mini wrapped, eye-catching and attract lots of attention. Plus, it's a form of advertising with a captive audience; this means people who are stuck in traffic can't avoid seeing the wrapped car alongside. This program will last for 3 months and the minimum period you can participate is 1 month.

You will be compensated with a sum of $300 (Three hundred dollars per Week), which is essentially a "rental" payment for letting our company use the space.

We shall provide experts that will handle the advert placement on your car. You will receive an upfront payment of $600 (Six hundred dollars) for accepting to carry this advert on your car and other weekly payments.

  • I can actually confirm the scam on this one. after you send in all this information on an e-mail, he says he'll send you a check worth 2313.99. He says to keep $600 of it and then send the rest to a specialist who will do the vinyl on your car, being $1713.99 via money gram.

Well, I got the check and did not tell him that I had Received it yet because i got it on a saturday and was waiting for monday to deposit it. He calls me monday morning asking why I have not wired the money yet. by this time I was really suspicious and still did not confirm getting the check yet and reaffirmed him that when I did and the money was in my account I would wire the money to the "specialist".

This check by the way, is fraudulent.
    1) the check is not signed
    2) there is a smidge/blur on the bank's name/ logo
    3) no company name with regard to the galaxy company
    4) there is only a routing number at the bottom of the check and no account number.

I turned it into the Bank and they confirmed to me it was indeed fraudulent. They kept it to make a report.

David by the way, has a horrible accent(which was another suspicion) and the parcel (us priority) containing the check came from a David Hernandez from a bicycle shop in New jersey.

The scam I believe if any, would be that you would deposit the check through an ATM and then without checking to make sure the check was good, wire money from your personal funds to the "Specialist" being 1700 bucks.

i hope this helps with more elabaration :)

  • Thank you so much Ben. I almost fell for this but was really curious when I received the $2313.99 email. I had to send this person 2 emails stating not to send anything to my house. Funny how I never received another email and never received anything after it was supposably already sent. Thanks again!!!
