My wife and I built a house from Grayhawk Homes, Inc. and closed on it August 2010. The house only came with a 1 year warranty against manufacture/builder defects (apparently they're not very confident in their workmanship). Sometime in the fall of 2010 (October/November), we were awakened in the middle of the night because one of our dogs was licking the carpet. When we turned on the lights we saw water dripping into our bedroom through one of the ceiling air vents onto the carpet (it was pouring rain outside). The next morning I called Howard's cell phone (the warranty manager for Grayhawk Homes, Inc.) and informed him what happened the night before. He gave me the number to the roofing person and told me to call him directly for repairs. I called the roofer, to which he said he would come out and look at it, but he never did.

On a completely separate warranty call a couple of weeks later, I informed Howard that the roofer never showed up to assess the problem. Howard said he would call the roofer and have them come out. Again, the roofer never came out.

The roof does not leak every time it rains; it only rains during a hard/torrential rain. So we had kinda forgot about it until it leaked again (September 2011). We completed an online warranty request which went unanswered. I called Howard (March/April 2012) to complain that the roof was still leaking because no one came out to fix it after several requests. This time Howard said that the first documented request for repair was September 2011, which is conveniently one month past my 12-month warranty, and there was nothing Grayhawk Homes, Inc. will do. I reminded him of the previous calls TO HIM and that the calls were made within the 12-month warranty period. I know for a fact that they were made within the 12-month period because we closed on the house August 2010 and the dog that woke us up in the middle of the night licking the floor died February 17, 2011 (clearly within the 12-month period). I informed Howard of all of this but Howard flatly denied receiving ANY calls from me regarding any roof leakage. Again, he said the first complaint they have on record is September 2011, which is outside the 12-month window, therefore Grayhawk will do nothing. In my honest opinion, Grayhawk Homes, Inc. uses deceitful business practices to forgo honoring their warranty responsibilities and I would not recommend them to anyone who is looking to build or buy a house from Grayhawk Homes, Inc. in Columbus, Georgia, Phenix City, Alabama and their surrounding communities.
