Access Travel Network uses unfair business practice to claim rent of your RCI timeshare weeks and then denies refund of the upfront money On Nov 6 2012, I was contacted and lulled into a sales pitch of Access Travel Network being able to rent my supposed alotted RCI timeshare weeks to corporations during major entertainment events such as the Super Bowl when demand would be high. They ask for you to pay up front for the per week exchange fee of $149 per week for 12 weeks of rental for a total of $1788 and then they will rent it out at $1500 per week and send you the checks. They authorize you credit card over the phone at that point and you are charged. The contract they ask you to sign states a refund is offered within 7 days but is non-refundable if after signing the contract. So in essence, you are suppose to cancel after the phone call authorization within 7 days. Once the contract is signed, you are instantly obligated without refund. I received the contract on Nov 7 and called to cancel on Nov 8. I got the runaround on the phone and then a girl told me she was processing the refund. Even then, I also sent a confirmed fax with a cover lettter indicating my desire to cancel. Furthermore, i also disputed the charge on my credit card to try to have them from their side pursue the credit back. When i did not see the refund, I called back and they told me to speak to a person named Mike that handles all the refunds. I got the runaround again as he was conveniently never available or returned my call. Finally I spoke with him and told him I wanted to cancel and explained why, he argued against my explanation but said he processed my cancellation. I received a letter from my credit card company on Dec 4 indicating they cannot issue me a refund for the disputed charge because the vendor had a canned letter indicating I signed the contract with no refunds and did not attempt to cancel (which was a lie). Needless to say, I really felt scammed now because the credit card company could not fight it and recommended i contact BBB or take it to court. I know I will simply get the runaround if I call again and i also as written in a previous complaint have had them conveniently disconnect the line when they put me on hold. The scam is they claim to advertise your timeshare for those alotted weeks but they never send you any information on those advertisements or where it is posted. They also remove themselves of any further obligation once they place this supposed advertisement of your rental since any potential renter is suppose to contact you the owner. They also fail to mention when they sales pitch you that you the owner have to contact Access Travel Network before 90 days are up to continue the advertisement cycle again for 90 days if it did not rent. And this is to go on and on every 90 days until is rented. They are under no obligation at this point as they have your money and count on you to miss the 90 day mark so they can hang you on that detail which like i said they NEVER mention to you. I only discovered that because it was in the written response from the company to my credit card dispute. Like I said they deliberately use unfair practices with the intent to deceive. They lied when the girl and this person named Mike told me on the phone that my cancellation was being processed. I am hoping something can be done about this but i know that it is unlikely
