I am just doing this to give other people some info so they might be forewarned and not fall prey to this type of scam.
I entered some information online inquiring about Mystery Shopping jobs. I received a phone call the next day from a lady stating I was accepted as a mystery shopper. After confirming my address and providing a cell phone number (the lady said it was required to work for them) they stated they would send out a package to me in the mail.
The package was suppose to be training material and info about the company as well as my starting check of for training. The check was going to have a hold until I confirmed I received it and did my training, (I figured this was a scam right away but wanted to see what it was all about anyway).
A slip indicating I had a delivery was on my door knob three business days later. I picked up the package from the delivery company and once I opened it and read the three pages in the envelope knew it was a scam.
There was a check for over $1000 that was suppose to include my compensation/pay for my new position of Customer Service Evaluator. The check looked real but there were tell tale signs that this whole process was a scam:

Grammatical errors albeit vary minor ones.
The company address was Canadian but they were referring to American 401k benefits.
Several times throughout the letter there was reference to keeping this matter very private, secret and confidential with the consequences being termination of employment.
The timing was also very important. Everything had to be done right away or my chances would be lost.
There was even an alert at the bottom of the page warning me to be aware of scams asking for my SSN and banking info via phone.

I wanted to try to warn other people so I provided the material to my local Police Station. While there the officer called the number on the letter and asked a few questions. As soon as he mentioned it was the Police calling they hung up.

Anyway I kinda knew these scams were around so was a little more prepared for the too good to be true scenario.
There number by the way is 905-782-0946
Hope this helps.
