We used a coupon as the others did, but the work was not completed and we cancelled the check and wrote to the company.

To whom it may concern,

I contacted your office by phone today, after hours I'm afraid, but the nice customer service person gave me the name "Nairobi" to ask for when I called back, advising that "Nairobi" was a customer service supervisor. I will be following up with her to recount what I have written below.

Here's my experience with your company:

We found a coupon in the paper and we called because we were interested in the three services it offered for the low-low price of $59: coil cleaning, system inspection, and duct cleaning. I agree that is a good price for all of those services, even if the coil isn't being pulled, which usually costs hundreds of dollars.

The two technicians came out at 10:30am on 04/09/12, to our home at XXXXX___REDACTED_____XXXXX.

The two men that arrived for the appointment were very nice but were definitely there to sell the UV lights for sanitizing my system. I don't care about that; if you sell things, you sell things. My concern is that they didn't do what they were supposed to do.

The technician began by setting up the HEPA vacuum machine to ONE vent, started it and began to access the condenser by removing the access panels on the unit. No problem yet, except he never sealed up any of the other vents to clean that vent, and never hooked the machine to any of the other vents at all to clean them. After letting the machine run for 25 minutes, concluded the "duct cleaning" by uninstalling the machine. This is not a proper duct cleaning by anyone's standards; we have about 10 vents in our home, none of which were properly cleaned except possibly the one the machine was connected to. Fail.

The technician showed me the top of the condenser coil while he had the access panel off. He said the coil was fine, although only the top was visible, meaning as you know, that he couldn't have known just from this inspection that the coil was clean or not. To determine this, the coil has to be accessed from the underside, where the air enters the unit. During the next twenty or so minutes, my wife and I were in another room (because of the noise) while the technicians worked. After they left, my wife and I removed the access panel to the condenser coil and spent the next 30 minutes cleaning it ourselves, as it was covered (on the underside) with a good accumulation of fine dust which clearly hadn't been touched since the unit was installed in 1999. They were about 10 screws and a little elbow grease away from having completed this task. It would have taken very little effort. Fail.

The technicians were not seen for a period of time after that while they were outside checking the freon. I don't know if this was done or not, but it wasn't anything I was too concerned with, so I didn't check behind them. I will assume, then, that it was done and done correctly. They came inside quickly afterward to explain the other services they could provide in the future, which was astonishing considering the lack of services that were provided for the $60 check I issued to them today. I was happy with their attitude and demeanor, but very unhappy when I did some checking and learned that there is no way that they actually provided the services promised.

I therefore contacted my bank and stopped the check. I am providing you with the information that I hope will allow you to improve your business. I am not interested in having anyone come back to my house to perform services I did not receive the first time. They had their chance to do the job right the first time and did not. I am not going to trash your company to any of the other people in my homeowner's association, who have nothing better to do than discuss such matters, I am simply not going to pay you for what was not done.

Keep in mind, stopping a check is not cheap. I'll eat that cost. You must eat the cost of doing business in a slipshod manner. I hope that these technicians are not taking advantage of others this way WITH YOUR KNOWLEDGE, but if they are, I suggest that there is enough money to be made out there without resorting to these bait-and-switch tactics. If they are acting this way WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE, you should seriously consider retraining them, or that is not feasible, consider withholding the $60 from them so you are not out the money. Either way, I consider the matter closed. If you wish to call me about this matter, please feel free.

After the email was sent, a collection agency began calling and harassing my wife and I. I am taking all of this up with the State Attorney's Office.
