I signed a contract in April with Fitness 4U. When signing the contract I was told verbally that the contract was for only a year and that if I moved and there wasn’t a gym in that location then I could cancel the contract. I also started a training contract with the gym that was only for a year under the same circumstances. My training contract ended in April 2012 so I was under the impression that my gym contract was going to end also. Within that time I moved out of the Lawrenceville area. Months had past, before I notice that National Fitness which is the billing company for Fitness 4U was billing my credit card for membership and maintenance fees. I contacted the company and they told me that I was still in a contract because I had sign a contract for 2years. I told the representative that it was supposed to only be for a year. I also informed the representative that I didn’t live in the area anymore. She did some research and she found out the there wasn’t a gym in the area so she told me that she would cancel the contract. The next month I checked my credit card bill and they were still billing me for the membership. I then contacted National Fitness again to ask why I was being charged when my membership should have been cancelled. The representative told me that they didn’t cancel memberships that I would have to contact the gym. I told her that the representative that I had spoken to previously told me that it would be cancelled. She told me there was nothing she could do and to contact the gym. I contacted them to ask about cancelling the account and the account manager told me that I had to bring in two bills then it would be cancelled so I did as he said I took two bills up to the gym and the lady at the front made copies and then she gave me a paper stating it was cancelled. On 9/22 I got a phone call from National Fitness stating that I owe them for the gym membership because it was not cancelled. I explained to the representative all that happened and she told me to keep contacting them until they cancel it. I called Fitness 4U back and I spoke to the account manager again and he told me it wasn’t cancelled because they didn’t get a copy of my ID. I explained to him that the lady just asked for the two bills and not my ID. He goes on to say how she was new and how she didn’t know she had to get a copy and how he informed me that they had to have a copy. I told him that as an employee she should have known to take a copy of my ID. He told me that it would not be cancelled until I bring them a copy of my ID. JUST FITNESS 4U is a SCAM and so is NATIONAL FITNESS. I have to pay for their employee mistakes.
