I received an email stating a job was available with this company as a shipping/receiving agent. I sent a response back expressing interest in the position and this is what I received in return:

------------

Hello Cathy,

We are pleased to hear you are interested in the job and would like to provide you further information.

All America Forwarding is an online mail service with a physical location in the Greater Los Angeles, California. We offer our clients a US postal address where they can receive parcels and correspondence. Foreign business people selling and buying goods in the USA find this service to be invaluable. All America Forwarding is also very popular with Americans who need to receive their mail on the move. We provide a wide range of mailing services to our clients. This can include the simple forwarding of mail for non US based customers that allows them to purchase items from US companies that do not ship internationally. It also gives our customers the ability to manage and monitor their mail online.

All America Forwarding is always seeking to develop its services further through a number of innovative approaches. We do this by utilizing the most up-to-date technological solutions and also through the implementation of efficient warehousing and human resources management approaches. Our remote employment approach allows us to maximize the number of addresses that can be offered to our clients in several states. This also enables us to reduce our storage expenses and to be more competitive.

Our company is expanding its operations, making this an excellent time to apply for employment. Your primary responsibility will be to accept parcels and letters delivered by the major carriers (such as USPS, FedEx and UPS) to your home address. You will then go to the nearest USPS location and forward the items to our clients using the prepaid shipping labels, which will be provided. It will not be necessary for you to fill in many forms or to pay for any shipments. Our shipping process is entirely automated. It allows you to see the list of incoming shipments and to receive paperwork and processing instructions from your account by using our simple and effective online dispatch platform. Our business model will allow you to monetize the sole fact that you are an US resident.

This job requires a strong commitment and internal discipline. However, the work is financially rewarding. A full-time employee of All America Forwarding Inc. receives an annual salary of $36,000 plus up to an additional $300 allowance per month for expenses. This is a relatively independent position that relies on the individual’s ability to take their responsibilities seriously. It requires you to be available at your home address during business hours (9am-5pm) from Monday to Friday, and occasionally in the evenings or on the weekends.

We place a very high priority on the security of our employees. One of our most important policies is to investigate all potential customers in order to verify that their business is genuine. This allows us to avoid the potential for criminal activity. We require all of our clients to provide two forms of ID as well as Form 1583 that has been certified by a notary. They must also complete an interview and verification process. The primary items for shipment include electronics, clothing, auto parts and sporting goods. Our remote employees must inspect and photograph the contents of each parcel and upload the photographs through their online account.

The first step in the employment process is to fill out and return the attachments to this email. You must email the completed application form, which is attached to this email, along with your resume to us. It is also important for you to review and to get acquainted with the draft employment contract. Your application should include valid references. If you decide to submit the application, you also need to be prepared for a phone interview with our recruitment department within next few days. In the application form you will find the link to our company’s website. Be sure to visit it. The website will familiarize you with our services and our key corporate operating principles. When completing the employment application you should think why you are the best candidate for this job and what you can bring to the company.

Sincerely,
Gloria Chan,
Recruitment department,
All America Forwarding Inc.

They included as attachments a contract and application. What is misleading about this company is that they have an actual physical address in Inglewood, CA and no complaints on the BBB website. Also, there was no request for personal information such as SS# at this time.

I received a phone call a couple of days later from supposedly Gloria Chan. It was an odd phone call - it didnt sound right. Also, I checked with my references and the company never contacted them. The interview was odd. She seemed more interested in if my home address was correct than in my qualifications for the position. Anyway, a day or so later I received this email:

-----------------

Dear Cathy,

After the telephone interview, we confirm your position with this letter.

This document outlines the main duties involved in the position.

There is no ambiguity in this document. This document clearly outlines all aspects of your duties, and should be treated accordingly.

1. As someone who is a remote employee, you must guarantee that you are available at home during office hours of 9-5. Here, you will take deliveries from UPS, FedEx and USPS. On occasion, you may find that some deliveries come in after 5pm or on Saturdays. To ensure you are aware of such instances, check the delivery list daily.
2. As an employee, you will be given an online account to manage deliveries. This is also the main point of contact between your supervisor and you. To ensure that this resource is used properly, please check online regularly throughout the working day.
3. We expect regular contact with your management, through the phone or via email. They are there to give you guidance, as well as provide support if there are any problems.
4. You must sign for every delivery you take at your address. Sometimes the customer’s name will have to be signed for.
5. You must open and check each package to ensure the goods inside have not been damaged due to problems in transit. You also have to photograph the item; to show evidence that it matches the description. Use any digital camera for this, and upload images to your account.
6. Download the prepaid shipping labels from your account, and print them out. Then affix them to the boxes.
7. Download new invoices from the online account, and then insert them into the packages before you reseal.
8. Deliver any parcels or letters to the post office in good time. If a delivery arrives before 2pm, it is expected that you package and ship to clients on the same day. This is of course dependent on labels and invoices being available online.
9. Take the tracking number from the shipping labels of your new package and enter it online, so that you can prove that the package has been shipped.
10. Once shipped, your online account will allow you to monitor every unit, so you can liaise with your supervisor on goods shipped.
11. Keep excellent records, so that you can resolve any issues as regards the shipping you do. You may need to communicate with carriers about any problems, and having accurate records will help.

Please print out the attached employment agreement, appointment letter and W4 and I9 forms.

Complete them fully before faxing them to: (800) 231-8046.

As we receive these documents we will create your online account for you. Then your dedicated manager will contact you shortly afterwards.

We are glad you are a part of our team, and cannot wait to start working with you.

Sincerely,
Gloria Chan,
Recruitment department,
All America Forwarding Inc.

-------------------

Attached were an I-9 form, W4 and a few others. I filled everything out and faxed it in to the number provided. Supposedly in 7 days an account was to be set up with all the necessary things needed for this position. When I didnt hear back from anyone, I emailed them. You know what I received? Nothing except another "thank you for your inquiry" emails. I've called and left many messages - no response from anyone.

They really look legitimate with a website, phone number and a location on googlemaps. Dont be fooled.

Luckily, I didnt give any bank account info or stuff. I regret listing my SS# and I have a feeling they will try to use it. I think these people are identity thieves and I wanted to get this out there to be aware. Dont fall for it. If you do, use a fake SS# and info and whatever you do, DONT give out your bank info. I'm grateful I didnt.

Next step is to contact the BBB and report them. Also the Attorney Generals office in California and even the FTC and FBI. Identity theft is a crime.

If anyone else had a similar experience post and let me know.

  • OMG! Thank you so much for posting this. Exactly the same thing happened to me in September of 2012. But the only difference is that they actually set up an account for me and i started receiving packages. i actually received some electronic packages that was sent to out of coutry recipients. I have filed a report with the FBI of what happened and i also filed a report with FTC. This people are scams!! How i knew that they were scams was when a package that was supposed to be delivered to me was intercepted by the sender and the UPS guys confidentially told me that it might because it was a credit card fraud. I imediately contacted my recruiter and asked her what happened and she could not give me a definate answer and i told her to cancel any contract i have because i dont want to be involved in a fraud. I called her several times to ask about the other packages that were still with me and she never responsed, so i sent and i am still sending all the remaining packages to the sender. Unfortunately, they have my ss#, address and even my bank account. I closed the bank account, i registered for identity guard to monitor my credit and ss#. I am still so scared about all this. I dont know what would happen with regards to the packages that i have already sent.

  • I'm sorry to hear you were scammed too. But you did the right thing. I filed a complaint with the FTC and the BBB. The FTC was very helpful and I spoke with an agent on the phone. After the complaint was filed he sent me a filled out form online (based on answers to their questions) to take to my local police department.

Also, you might want to get a fraud alert put into your credit reports. I did this. Its good for 90 days and free. Contact one of the major credit reporting agencies and explain the situation. You dont have to contact all three of them. One will forward it to the others.

Have everything documented. That way if anything comes back as credit card fraud on these packages that you sent, at least you have proof to show you werent involved in fraud.

You were smart to close out your bank account. Try not to worry. If you go and report it, then you should be fine.

Stay in touch and I will send additional information as I get it.
