About three weeks ago, my wife’s new Toshiba lap top computer would not power up. She went on the internet and found the proper site to make arrangements for the product to be fixed under the warranty. Because it was a power issue, she was required to call the tech support number for the Toshiba company to make proper arrangements to send the product in for warranty work. She was instructed to include the power cord and AC adapter with the computer when she sent it in. In the process of taking the computer to UPS for shipment she forgot to take the power cord and AC adapter with her. After she got to the UPS store she returned to our home, about a six mile trip one way, and picked up the power cord and adapter. She then returned to the UPS store where the agent packaged the product in accordance with the Toshiba company instruction. It was shipped to Toshiba by UPS. “We also had to pay the packing and shipping bill” About twelve days later we got a courtesy call from Toshiba, telling us that the computer was being shipped back to us. When the box arrived, the power cord and adapter were both missing. The paper work that we received from the Toshiba company stated that the power cord and the adapter were not received with the unit. I called several times and tried to get the company to return our power cord and adapter. All I could get from several people, including customer service, receiving depot, and tech support was that the paper work says “the power cord and adapter were not received with the computer” I was also told that the company would not send another unit to me. The last person I talked with told me that they would not replace the power cord and adapter because they were expensive. Retail, they are only $28.95. My answer to that is that someone has either stolen the cord and adapter, or the person that unpacked the unit lied on the paper work. At the very least the handling of my wife’s computer was sloppy and with no regard to the customer. My suspicion is that the worker that opened the package put the extras in his or her lunch box and took it home. It will probably show up on e-bay for sale.

This whole story could be prevented if the Toshiba company had any interest in real “Customer Service” As a side note this is my second Toshiba lap top purchase and when this is all over, this article will be published on my two blogs on E-zine Articles and on Article base. It will also be sent to the California Consumer protection department.
