Definitely a scam. I called a listed agent David Akuwadic @ 818-945-4294 and asked him if I can visit him in person in LA at the address written in the letter. Regardless of the fact that he is a small fraud, sitting somewhere in Africa, my guess in Nigeria or RSA (that's where the letter came from), he is pretty smart and responded "Call me when you come here" then hung up. He is using a "Magic Jack" connection, that's why the pone # is from LA area. Also, the check which he sent me, looks pretty legitimate, but if you examine it closely, it does not have what a real cashiers check should have, such as water marks, etc. Anyway, the fraud people get more and more creative and sophisticated. So, do not let them fool you!
