My mother, who is in her 80's, received a letter from "Claim Services" in Montreal, Canada, stating she had won an $80,000 prize. The letter stated she must not contact anyone related to the prize. Enclosed was a check for $2632.00. She must call "John Carter" before the check would be negotiable. If she attempted to cash the check before contacting "John Carter" the check would not be negotiable. In order to receive the balance of the prize a processing fee must be paid.

This is a scam although to my mother it appeared quite legal. It is disgusting people exist who prey on the elderly population!
