I began to try the "JustCloud" site, as my backup needs are quite significant, I downloaded JustCloud's little "client program", and noticed that it wasn't backing up much at all. Then, the screen changed & told me that my data was "Not Protected", and that I had to "upgrade" my "account", & I immediately saw the scam being attempted & decided NOT to give them ANY further information, such as a credit card number, or anything else.
(It was bad enough that they'd already gotten my "preferred" email address.) Upon trying to find some way to reverse the process, and "get out of their system", I found it impossible to do so. I've re-set the "backup client" program to not backup anything at all, & then I "Googled" the site's name, and found Scambook, (which I'm happy to have found, & at the same time feel it's unfortunate that we NEED such a site). I read the "Terms & Conditions" of Scambook, and promptly signed up.
While I have not suffered any monetary losses (that I know of) to date, I have no idea what files were transferred to the "JustCloud" site, or what they contained, and having already been the victim of "Identity Theft" only 7 months ago, I know that this alone is a potential threat, depending on what is done with whatever data & files were "taken" by the so-called "backup" program, since only AFTER the initial files were transferred, was it made known to me that they had NOT been encrypted or otherwise protected at the time, or at least that's what JustCloud was telling me.
Since I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw their scamming collective as*es into jail, I don't know if what they said on their site about that lack of initial security is true or not, either.
Since every page of the first several I looked at, when I "Googled" JustCloud, contained at least one or more entries involving complaints of "scamming", I felt I'd pass along this info, since whoever is running/financing/whatever that "JustCloud" site, most certainly IS trying to "scam" people, and so, if for nothing else than adding my complaint to the number of total complaints against them, I submitted this report of my complaint to Scambook.
(And I am very happy to learn that the web now has a "Better Business Bureau" of sorts, & I take my hat off to whoever thought up the idea of using the Internet to do this kind of GOOD thing, rather than to try to rip people off.)
I appreciate what Scambook is doing, and if there's anything I can do to help (which doesn't involve monetary contributions, unfortunately), such as "unofficial" advice on Contract Law, or the Uniform Commercial Code, I'd be happy to provide help with what I know about those subjects.
Please feel free to use my "screen name" and any other parts of this message as you see fit, and thank you for keeping up the great work you're doing to try to protect unsuspecting consumers from some of the "scum" that only want to "make a quick buck".
(If most of those "scam artists" would put their brain-power toward legitimate purposes, they could be rich & NOT be breaking the law, or violating the trust of the general public.)
