I was a loyal customer of Kemper Insurance for more than 5 years. I NEVER filed a claim and was NEVER late paying a single bill. I never once complained about any rate hikes either.

on 7/19 of last year my PAID for 740IL BMW with only 86,000 miles was stolen. Kemper sent their local ex-police officer investigators to home for 5 of the same statement. Only 1 was recorded. I also gave my statement to local law enforcement as needed and filed all paperwork. Kempers corporate office made me go through my statement 3 separate times. I am 42, completely disabled, 90% home bound with a 14 year old straight A student who runs cross country and plays the cello. My son had just returned from Iraq to his wife and my grandson after serving as a combat medic for 1 1/2. I am divorced but we are decent God Loving Christian people who have never broken the law beyond running a red light.

I know you do not have to pay tickets caught on the camera radar but I even paid that.

After months of hounding I got a letter stating my claim was approved and to send them the free and clear title after I received a portion of the total payout. After they received it they would transfer the title and mail me the balance they owed me.

This was in early December...it drug on that long. 3 weeks after mailing them the title the PD called and had found my car completely totaled. I called Kemper. They had not bothered to transfer title and wanted to reverse everything. I said no. The car is no longer drivable (I never saw it as I now have no transportation and can't get around like that anyway after 8 back procedures for what is basically a disintegrating spine).

SO....they transferred the title, compacted the car, and never called or wrote. I called and was told that they believed I had stolen or hidden or something with my own car to get a payout from them and they would not pay the remainder. I had no place to turn. And still don't. I told them if they were not going to pay for my car I wanted it back compacted or whatever. They laughed at me. They said I had damaged my own car which is absurd because I could have sold it for far more than their pay out and I have NEVER even considered committing a crime. My best friend's husband is a Police Officer and I had to keep calling all those months through back channels to find out if my car was found because Kemper would not.

The cherry on top is that I begged their ex-Police staff in tears over the phone to just ask me what they needed because it wasn't recorded. I can no longer move to the bed from the sofa so my life and bed is run from my sofa. They always made me let them come over and set on my bed to ask questions even though there are 3 other living room chairs in my den. I was humiliated. I have not even left the house to go to dinner in almost 3 years and certainly do not interact with men in my home who seemed to take pleasure in invading my personal space over and over. Then I am accused of a felony when I can not even drive.

Kemper and their customer service staff are the most unprofessional, (abusive to the disabled in my opinion),dismissive,horrid people to work with. I strongly suggest going to a different company for insurance. Especially if you are disabled. They exploited my inability to run around town and do their job for them to make it look like I was not cooperating. The last call to cooperate...I was dared to get an attorney and then hung up on!
