Approximately, four months ago upon noticing the fabric tearing to my Better Homes and Garden Englewood Heights 4-piece outdoor conversation set (purchased at Wal-Mart) I called the 877-877-1235 number on the back of the Better Homes and Garden tag. At which time I spoke a reprehensive from your company Ms. Coral. During my first conversation with her she advised me she was experiencing difficulty with the reception on her line. At which time she asked for my email address and stated that she would email me concerning my issue with the Englewood set. While waiting for this email from Ms. Coral, the Englewood set began to almost deteriorate at my very touch. Several other attempts were made to the 877-877-1235 with negative results.
On August 13, 2011 I called Wal-Mart online and explain my issue with the defective Better Homes and Garden Englewood Heights 4- piece outdoor conversation set. The gentleman I spoke with tried to assist me and actually pulled up the set online and read the negative reviews. He gave me the 877-877-1235 at which time I informed him of my previous issue with that number. The gentleman was very apologetic and advised me to return to the Wal-Mart store where I made my purchase for further assistance.
On August 15, I arrived with two cushions from my set at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 1830 Galleria Blvd, Charlotte, NC 282770 I spoke with two customer service ladies (African American) who tried tirelessly as well as their store manage Joanna to assist me. At one point one of the women called the 877-877-1235 and the phone continue to ring with no one every picking up. The ladies in customer Service and their manager were willing to replace the cushions however none of the cushions in the store could fit into the Englewood set. I was finally, told unfortunately they could no longer help me and advised me to contact Better Homes and Garden.
On August 15, 2001 I was able to finally get through the 877-877-1235 number and spoke Leisure Garden Furniture representative, Ms. Coral concerning the defective Better Homes and Gardens Englewood Heights 4- piece outdoor conversation set. During the conversation I reminded her of our previous call four months ago which she claimed she had no record of. Ms. Coral then requested that I produce a sale receipt, photos of the Englewood set along with my name, address and email. I told her I no longer had the receipt the set was purchased last year. However, I had the photos and the tag from the set with barcode information. She further stated I would be required to pay a $75 fee to have 8 replacement covers sent to me. Ms. Coral would not acknowledge that the set was defective and that Wal-Mart was liable for full replacement cost. She further suggested that I contact Wal-Mart and ask them to pay the replacement cost for me!
At this point for me to say that I was not pleased with Better Homes and Garden, Leisure Garden Furniture or Wal-Mart for not recalling this product would be a gross misrepresentation of my true and honest feelings about this matter, for which I cannot state in print!
I emailed the aforementioned information along with attached photos of the Better Homes and Gardens Englewood Heights 4-piece outdoor conversation set in its current state and reference number 11081507 supplied by Ms. Coral.
On August 16, 2011 I received a call from Ms. Coral accursing me of misrepresenting her in the email at which time she hung up on me. This morning (8/17/2011, I received three email reply’s from a Ms. Tina from Customer Service at Leisure Garden Furniture (they are contracted to handle this patio dispute for Wal-Mart). I was advised that the 8 complete cushion covers with zips will be sent via FedEx this week. Minutes later, I received another email from Ms. Tina from Customer Service at Leisure Garden Furniture requesting for my address (which was supplied to Ms. Coral on 8/15/1011) However, I sent my address information again, also mentioning I was making an official complaint against Ms. Coral for the rude hang up call. Minutes later I received a third email from Ms. Tina from Customer Service at Leisure Garden Furniture requesting for photos (that she had previously acknowledge receiving in her first email) along with a receipt of purchase. Am I getting the run around or what?



Most of the reviews about the set reported discovering the defects within a few months. This was not the case for me because I kept my cushions stored inside my garage or completely covered when not in use.

15Like many others, we purchased this set late Spring 2010. In September 2010, we noticed a tear in one of the seat cushions that got bigger each day. A few days later, we found some tears in the ottoman. When running my hand over the ottoman, it felt like tissue paper and the fabric literally disintegrated under my touch. This set is VERY poorly made and we will be attempting to return it very soon. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

15I BOUGHT THIS SET A FEW MONTHS AGO.I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING OUTDOOR FURNITURE BUT AFTER IT RAINED ON IT THE FABRIC ROTTED. IT BECAME SO BRITTLE THAT IT JUST SHREDS. MAYBE I MISUNDERSTOOD THAT THE FABRIC WAS MADE FOR OUTDOOR WEATHER. ALOT OF MONEY WASTED, I CAN'T FIND CUSHIONS THE SAME SIZE. OF COURSE I THREW RECEIPT AWAY AFTER I ASSEMBLED IT. I LOVED THE WAY IT LOOKED.

15Like most others that have written reviews on this product....the fabric is ripping and falling apart to the touch. This is absolutely JUNK and after only 6 months we can not use it. Don't get fooled by the look as it does look/feel like quality but it isn't!!!!!

15I purchased this set in June 2010. It is now October 2010. Every single cushion is literally disintegrating. I noticed a rip in one cushion, all the way across the front. I went to take a picture to submit to the manufacturer and noticed a little spot on the ottoman. I placed my hand on that spot and my hand became covered in dye from the fabric and created another rip. I went to the love seat and put my hand on it....more rips where I placed my hand. Beautiful, but obviously poorly made.

15i have ripped and torn cushions... with less than moderate use. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT . I have been talking with BHG customer support.... no one will return my call... guess what they subcontract customer service out to a third party.... i cant even get a return email of phone call. EXPECT to have to purchase new cushions withint 90 days of purchase of this product. MOST dissapointing, but I cant blame WALMART.

15Like many others, we too bought this set in the spring (of 2010) and were so excited. The product looked quality without the the price tag. We were expecting to get at least 3 seasons out of the cushions before replacement.
Just this week, we noticed a slight tear in one of the seat cushions. Then it got bigger right before our eyes... Now there are more tears on other cushions.
We like the style, like the colors and we are now looking at spending MORE to replace or recover the cushions than we did on the entire set.
Bummer Dude...

15For the first 3 months we really enjoyed this set, however last month the fabric on the table began to rip and every seat has ripped as well. It does sit in direct sunlight half of the day but i expected a more durable product for furniture designated as "outdoor". Complete waste of money!!!

15I do NOT recommend this product. It is very poorly made. I have never seen cushions rip on their own like this. The ottoman, now the two seater has rips and you can see the batting inside the cushions. It is now useless. We have lightly used this and only had it 4 months. Please trust me when I say this is very poorly made. We have had it for 4 months and barely have sat on it. DO NOT BUY THIS SET. It WILL rip and you will be sorry.

15I am returning my set. It was GREAT!! We loved it!! However, the fabric cushions have ripped after only 4 months. The fabric is literally disenigrating!! I know of another person with the same problem. I am certain that it is a fluke.
Will not hold up to the sun!!!!!

15As with many of the reviews already documented the material willnot hold up to sun. After 4 months of use all cushions - and I mean all disinegrated. I would not buy this if you have direct sunlight!!!!!

15I purchased this patio set about 5 months ago and loved it. It was beautiful and comfortable. But about a week ago I noticed a small tear in the loveseat. Since I have noticed several more tears in all the cushions. It appears to be disintegrating. Every where I touch my finger will just poke through the fabric. We even have it under a covered patio, where it is not exposed to the weather that much. I have called the manufacturer and am waiting to hear back. I would not recommend buying this patio set! It will not hold up.

25I have been looking for a nice patio set for years and thought I finally found it when I found this set. I bought this set 4 months ago and the cushions are falling apart. I noticed what appeared to be a small scratch in the fabric, when I touched it the fabric split open and my hand was covered with yellow powder. I thought it was just on the ottomon but then I noticed all of the cushions were doing it. I had just recommended this set to my mother, luckily I caught her just before she bought it too! Don't spend the money unless you want to replace all the cushions frequently

25I purchased this set on April 12 and noticed on September 6 that the fabric has already begun to tear. The seat cushion hasn't been outside for more than 8 weeks due to construction in the back yard, and it only gets full sun through part of the day. Other customers have expressed my exact same complaint, some offering photos that depict the identical situation I've encountered. I haven't been able to determine if there is any recourse for fabric problems, since the frame warranty is quite specific, but can't find mention of the cushions. I like the set, but will probably wind up having new cushions made for each of the pieces. Too bad. It wasn't an overpriced set, but it certainly wasn't cheap either.

15We purchased this product on March 27, 2010. Initially we were very pleased with the product but after having it for four months the fabric began to completely DISINTEGRATE. A person can barely touch it and a hole appears where they touched it. It cannot be sat on due to the fact that yellow dust appears allover their clothing. The construction of the chairs and love seat are excellent but the fabric on the cushions is clearly defective. Wal-Mart and Better Homes and Gardens needs to do the right thing and correct this issue for their customers.

15Ignore all the positive reviews on this site! Each and everyone is from individuals who have had the set for a few days or weeks. After 3 months, these cushions WILL rot!!! With the touch of a finger you can put as many holes as you would like in the disaster of a set. "Outdoor Furniture" Ha! This furniture isn't made well enough to be indoors, much less in the rain and sun. DO NOT PURCHASE or you will be devastated!!!! I wouldn't pay $50 for this junk!!!!

  • Since reporting this incident to this site. I was contacted by Better Homes and Garden, who reviewed and investigated my complaint. I was given new cushions, new cushions with zip covers and a 5 piece protection cover set as well as full re-embursement $641.00 for my trouble. all is well! Thanks for allowing me to post my complaint I believe this exposure helped.
