I tried to make a phone call that I was told would be charged $12, and it did not even go through. I attempted again to dial the number but did not go through and I pressed 0 to cancel, as instructed. Then I check my statement online and got charged TWICE for $36.07 USD. I demand my money back because that is false advertisement. I only swiped my card ONCE and was never told of that amount of money. I did not even get a single ring. This is absurd and I wish to have my money refunded to my card immediately. This occured at the Pacific Central Station in Vancouver, B.C. from my debit card.

    Most consumers do not understand and appreciate the expense differences between a direct-dialed call and an operator assisted call; operator assisted calls are more expensive due to the numerous expenses associated with them, such as:

    Validation
    Billing & Collection
    Bad debt
    Live operator staffing (amortized over all calls)
    Credit card processing fees and compliance requirements
    Customer service center

    None of these expenses are associated with coin-paid direct-dial calls placed from a pay telephone or direct-dialed calls placed from a residence or business.

    WiMacTel does not post our calling rates on pay telephones due to space limitations. With calls to locations worldwide; automated versus live operator processing; and, various billing methods, there is no room to display all of the resulting rates. To help consumers make an informed decision, WiMacTel does make available the option to obtain a rate quote.

  • WiMacTel offers a rate quote as the LAST option on collect calls. Since that is something completely foreign to people (have you ever asked for a quote for a phone call?) people don't even usually wait for that option. WiMacTel tries to cover themselves by claiming to offer rate quotes, but they know most people won't even know what a rate quote is and won't wait to hear ALL the possible options!! Their fees are exorbitant and they are not upfront with customers. I also found the customer service person to be very arrogant and dismissive.
