My wife received a letter and cheque today. Supposedly the cheque for $3998.00 was to be used to test the that the financial services compliance rules for non-bank businesses - specifically Western Union - were being followed. It was obviously a scam but some poor unsuspecting, perhaps less well-educated person could have been duped.
I'm sure that the real Avis Car Rental Co will want to know about this misuse of their good business name and reputation.
Needless to say we will be reporting this to the police (RCMP)
