My possible monitary damage could be 39.99 and 3.95, I'm not too sure. I was provided a phone number by 211 that could provide me with additional information for a company I was looking for in Rockville Centre, NY. When I called this number Michael told me I would receive a $100 online gift card just for using their service for my phone number. I was then transferred to another person, Blake, who told me that I would be eligible for an all inclusive vacation for $39.99 to Cancun or to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico -- but would not be charged, just receive information about the offer. I did not provide credit card info to Assist 123, however they somehow provided it to me. I immediately called my bank and to my relief they did not process any charges because I have a fraud alert on my card. They did tell me that if charges do appear within the next 7-10 business days then we will file a fraud report. This company is unbelievable. Also, I DID NOT receive the number I had called for. They totally bypassed the reason for my call. They did give me other numbers 1.800.712.3000 which is Free 411 or 1800.free411 which most of us have heard of and usually cannot use! They also gave me another number to help me find the number of the company I need 1800.331.2514--immediately it says please hold for an available operator, your call will be answered in the order received. This number is also Assist 123, however this is where you actually receive the numbers you are looking for. They do tell you that you have to call the first Assist 123 number to receive this number. I am reporting to the BBB to see what exactly is going on.
