A man wearing an Entrust logo shirt and badge, carrying an Entrust logo binder, came to my door and told me a lot of people had been overcharged for CenterPoint Energy on their utility bills and he was in the neighborhood to correct it for us. He asked for my ESI ID to verify that I was the person on his list as being one of the people who had been overcharged. He looked at my Cirro Energy bill to obtain this ID no. and asked for my phone no. and date of birth. He was then going to make a call that "would be recorded for my protection" so he could get my rate corrected. He said my rate would drop to 6.something from 12.33. I asked if I would get a refund for the overcharge and when he said "no", I began to suspect he was actually trying to get me to change my energy provider from Cirro to Entrust, without telling me that. He pretended he was just making a "correction" to what I was being billed by Cirro. I told him I thought he was trying to trick me into switching providers and he continued to explain that I was being overcharged and he was just trying to correct that. If I had allowed him to continue, he would have placed the phone call and I don't know what would have happened after that. I only know he was totally deceptive (the Public Utility Commission of Texas' representative agreed he was trying to get me to switch providers without telling me that upfront.). I would have incurred a $200 cancellation fee if I had changed providers. I reported this incident to the PUC (they can do nothing unless someone actually falls for this scam and is switched without their permission) and I also filed a complaint with the BBB. I noticed that Entrust has an F rating at BBB.

  • I spoke with the Marketing Director of Entrust Energy. He assured me the behavior described above is not condoned and he was glad to be made aware of it. I believe him and would remove my complaint if scambook.com allowed that.
