  • The problem is that you called an authorized retailer for Verizon, not their corporate sales department. I used to work for the company that sells this for them, it's called Clearlink and is located in Salt Lake City, UT.

There are sales quotas that have to be met so they force you to "attach" it to every sale.

It's unethical and deceitful and I no longer affiliate myself with that company because of their shady sales practices.

Don't be upset with My Tech Help or Verizon. Verizon actually just banned Clearlink from selling My Tech Help to their customers about a month ago. Clearlink stated that it wasn't because it was being sold without customer's permission, but I feel that might not really be the case. On a positive note, you can rest assured that if you ever need to call in and make changes to your FiOS services in the future, Clearlink will not be able to sign you up for this service anymore.

It's definitely Clearlink's fault for signing people up for the My Tech Help service without their general interest or sometimes without their permission.

  • Sounds like you may have ordered new home services around that time (Verizon, ATT, Centurylink, Frontier, etc). I used to work for the company that is a retailer for most home service companies and they sell My Tech Help, it's called Clearlink and is located in Salt Lake City, UT.

There are sales quotas that have to be met so they force you to "attach" My Tech Help to every sale.

It's unethical and deceitful and I no longer affiliate myself with that company because of their shady sales practices.

Don't be upset with My Tech Help. While it's not a practical service for most people, myself included, they're actually very good at what they do.

It's definitely Clearlink's fault for signing people up for the My Tech Help service without their general interest or sometimes without their permission.

  • The problem is that you called an authorized retailer for ATT, not their corporate number. I used to work for the company that sells this for them, it's called Clearlink and is located in Salt Lake City, UT. They own the website www.attsavings.com which advertizes for ATT but routes to them for sales.

There are sales quotas that have to be met so they force you to "attach" it to every sale.

It's unethical and deceitful and I no longer affiliate myself with that company because of their shady sales practices.

Don't be upset with My Tech Help or ATT. It's ATT's choice to keep Clearlink on as a major sales partner and I feel that they have a responsibility to their customer's to make sure that all sales calls are legitimate, but it's definitely Clearlink's fault for signing people up for the My Tech Help service without their general interest or sometimes without their permission.

  • I had a similar situation referring to pretending to be apple care. i believe it was around $160.00 i had lost to my tech help. Have your bank handle all the negotiations from this point on. Don't even attempt to speak to a managers, they are all in on the scam. Just let your bank resolve it. They probably will not try to get into your computer since all they wanted was your money and they got that but i would take your computer to a reputable place, such as where you purchased it, and have them take a look at it. Good luck!

  • This is almost exactly what happened to us. We waited for our $50 "Gift Card" and finally I called in. I was told we could wait until almost Christmas to get the gift card OR we could right then and there get $200 in valuable coupons for businesses and restaurants. We asked what restaurants. Red Lobster was one they named and Macy's and Best Buy were a couple stores they named. So we said sure. We got an email with a place to log in to get our coupon. First of all there were 4 restaurants, 3 of which I never heard of. The other was Texas Steakhouse and the closest one to us was 3 1/2 hours away. Next I started looking at the businesses. The coupons for Best Buy were 10% discount coupons for purchase of any phone. You had to pay $5 out of our $200 to get the 10% off. All the business coupons were like that. So I called back in and royally chewed some butt. By that time I was pretty sure this was a scam. I demanded that that phony $200 be taken back and our gift card mailed immediately. They said there was a disclosure when we agreed to do it that where they asked if we agreed to not get the card. I said, yes, but I said IF Red Lobster and places in our area are in the coupons. I called in 4 times, was on hold for no less then 15 minutes each time. I demanded to speak to a supervisor and was told they were in a meeting. Then I called back later and they were going to "review the audio tape" of the agreement conversation. I then said I was going to the Better Business Bureau. We called our bank to try to block any more charges from them and was told we couldn't but that we had a credit for $299.99 that just came in. That is what we originally paid. So we did get that back. The other day we got a $50 check in the mail from them. We have not cashed it and are afraid to do so. Does anyone know, can they still get into our computer?

  • This same company scammed my very computer illiterate mother and I need to make sure everyone complaining about this company knows that if at any point you gave them remote control of your computer, they installed spyware to record your keystrokes in hopes of getting your bank account info. Please pass this on! I had to do a very deep default cleansing of my mother's desktop before she could safely use it again after dealing with mywebtech

  • I have exactly same issue except that I was charged $99.99 and $79.99. My computer was fine before they installed crazy softwares. I should have questioned them as I saw they searched for a program to install from Google but I did not!! After several attempts to fix my iPhone failed, I was hung up. I called back and got a message that they closed! I talked to customer service and she said I should go online to fill in rebate form to get my money back. Guess what? The form does not exist!! Right now, my credit card is taking care of this. What's a nightmare!

    2) that Apple charges a yearly fees for their service , which is a lie
    3) didn't have to pay 199.99$ to fix an IPAD

Thank you so much for your input on this. It makes me physically ill to think people can live with themselves doing this, and I'm so glad you are not one of those people. I will be following up with the news today, I have the recordings, and once my mom calls to speak to the "billing" department, I will be calling the FBI. Your information was extremely helpful and I will be passing this on. I'm so sorry you had to deal with such terrible people.
