UPDATE: Parents have begun to receive their free Repair Kit for the recalled Bumbo Baby Seat. Detroit Local 4 News reports that the repair kit arrived sooner than expected (in 1 week instead of 2-3 weeks) and installation is simple. In addition to the safety harness and instructions already reported, the Bumbo Baby Seat Repair Kit includes a fitted template that shows you exactly where to insert the pegs for the harness. It may take a bit of force to punch through the seat’s thick foam, but after the pegs are installed, it’s very easy to attach the toddler restraint belt using the repair kit’s washers. Detroit Local 4 reports that the new harness feels snug and secure. Remember, even with the new safety belt, the Bumbo Baby Seat should never be used on an elevated surface and your baby should always be supervised when using the seat. To get your own free Bumbo Baby Seat Repair Kit, email [email protected] or call (866) 898-4999. All new Bumbo Baby Seats sold after August 15, 2012 come with this safety harness already installed.

Does your young child or grandchild have a Bumbo Baby Seat? If so, get your baby out of that seat right now! The Bumbo Baby Seat has been officially recalled due to safety hazards. A review of the product found that the seats are potentially dangerous because your infant isn’t secured when using the seat. Approximately 4 million Bumbo Baby Seats have been sold in the United States online and at brick-and-mortar retail stores such as Sears, Target, Toys R Us, Babies R Us and Walmart. The retail price ranges from $30 to $50.

This isn’t the first time that Bumbo International, a South African company, has had to recall its products. The Bumbo Baby Seat was recalled in 2007 to provide additional warning labels about using the Baby Seat on raised or elevated surfaces. The Bumbo Baby Seat is not intended for use as a high chair or booster seat. However, even when the Bumbo Baby Seat is used properly – on the floor, with adult supervision – the unrestrained infant can still be injured by wiggling out of the molded foam seat. Bumbo International hopes to solve this problem by offering consumers a free repair kit that includes a child restraining belt.

“The restraint belt will help prevent children from getting out of or falling from the seat when it is used as intended: on the floor with adult supervision and never on raised surfaces,” the company said in a statement. “The health and safety of children using the Bumbo Baby Seat are our top priorities.”
