The Scambook community has struck again.  A national class action was recently filed against Stonebridge Benefit Services and its business partner, J.C. Penney.  The class action complaint alleges that Stonebridge enrolled consumers in negative option memberships without their permission and charged them on a monthly basis.  The complaint additionally alleges that many consumers were enrolled in the membership clubs as a result of making a purchase from J.C. Penney, either online or over the phone.  The membership programs mentioned in the complaint include:

Numerous Scambook members have posted complaints about one or more of these clubs, including Savings2GoPlanPlusLeisurePlusEveryday Bargains, and Perfect Home Select and Rewards.  If you have a complaint about any of these clubs, you can post your complaints on Scambook by clicking here.

As always, we’ll keep you updated on this and all other consumer issues.  Report it.  Share it.  Fight Back!

The same thing happened to me. I called and JCP acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. They signed me up for Family Fun Benefits at 9.95 monthly. What can I do in response? This is such a scam. I’m so angry right now!

I am looking into speaking to my attorney on this matter. My parents of 68 and 75 yrs old have been being charged through this PlanPlus and SAV@GO for the past 4 years-$12.95 each every month. When I called to find out what and where this charge was coming from-I was given three different numbers to call, and from insurance to Capital One insurance for my husband on my mother’s card-cancelled in 2011, then it went to something ordered by my non-english speaking partially deaf father, then finally, charges for a nonexistent membership service to discounted meds and hearing aids and crap. After speaking to their bank, unfortunately much can’t be done past 6 months but I will not stop until something is done with this company!!!

They did the same thing to be, told me is was just a reward program when in fact they pulled my credit rating without my conssent and I ended up with a JC Penny charge card. I immediately called the credit buruea and told them that it was a scam and they was to take off the JCPenny credit card of my credit Beauras. But yes I want to be on paper as stating that they did the same to me but it was at the salon. They just told me it was a reward program to get points of the salon only and hair products They Lied.

Unfortunately they scammed me too! I never signed up for this program but they enrolled me anyway when I made an online purchase and NEVER received any confirmation by email OR by reg mail! I cannot believe jc peenys would allow this! I placed a call to head quarters concerning this and I was told a supervisor would be calling me back but the call never came. Disgusted by jcp and never stepping foot in that store again! I too would love to join in on the class action! Please let me know how!

I just realized that I had been a victim since January 2011. It wasn’t until today when I checked the credit bill from JCPENNY card carefully for the first time. After many calls to Stone Bridge Benefit Services and JCPENNY credit cards and customer services, here is what happened: I ordered something in end of 2010 from the online store and apparently I was tricked into Perfect Home Select Program which charges membership fee of $9.95/month. I have never received any emails or mails about this membership and until now I still don’t know what it is. I am so angry that JCPENNY, such a national brand name, can do this to its loyal customers like me. How can I join this class action?

I gave my permission to have my account debited but I have never used or benefited from anything concerning this program. Now I am unable to get ahold of anyone to cancel my membership. I am in the process of closing my checking account and would like to have this taken care of . I am right now on hold and it has been 15 minutes, please include me in your class action suit.

Perfect Home has been charging my bank account $9.95 for quite some time without my permission. I would like to be included in a class action against JC Penney.
Attempts to cancel this so called membership resulted in their sudden disconnect of the call.

I have been doing my homework surfing the net for bits and pieces of information about Savings2Go, for I am disappointed to see the $14.95 charges on my card. I am baffled, as I do my searches, that this has been going on for years. There may have been lawsuits and complaints left and right, but that won’t stop a company that knows the law to weasel their way to claiming all the different consents. If I ask for hard concrete proof (transcript, the actual recording) I would never get that. I know I wouldn’t get it because I had to repetitively tell the lady on the telephone that I do not want anything except the Sham Wow. I am hearing impaired and I was weary of different things they may send to me so I just say no to anything. I would want to read the details, not listen which is hard enough without the voice and rapid speaking, I am saying no to anything other than what I want.
This is a membership in which they claimed it being paid for. They failed to deliver a product. Does anyone know what the membership is good for and how to utilize it? I have no clue since I didn’t receive anything in the mail or other indication that I am part of whatever it is. I still don’t know.
The only ways I can see this stopping this:
-if law is created to ban this type of practice. It happened for Credit Cards, now why not this?
-The other way I can see is to file complaints against legitimate businesses that do business with them. In other words, Sham Wow or “As Seen On TV” is part of what company(ies)? Indicating to them what is happening and they are indirectly (or directly) assisting a company that has collected millions of dollars deceptively through their company. Who knows, maybe they would care about their image?
-Third, things do not happen unless there is the nation attention. Are there any reports on national news or Associated Press? Maybe it could spark a need for online or phone reform?

Maybe this is all just wishful thinking, to live in a place the small print and deception trump integrity.

I was also scammed by J C Penneys and Perfect Home Select. I never signed up for anything and are being charged $ 9.95 for services I never used or asked for. J C Penneys tells you to call Perfect Select directly. When calling Perfect Select, they claim to have technical difficulties and you get nowhere.
