I received a response to a Craigslist ad to buy tickets to Burning Man 2012 for face value plus shipping costs. He identified himself as Edgar Ellen. He was a very polite and chatty fellow who wanted to "do the right thing by using a certified payment agent".

He accurately explained the Burning Man ticketing process and promised that he would change the mailing address on the tickets as soon as he had confirmed payment. He asked for me to send payment via Western Union.

After I made payment he called back several times explaining the process that he would need to follow to transfer access to the account that controlled the shipping address. He told me that the process was complicated by the fact that tickets were sold in pairs (this is true) and that the girl who had called about the other ticket was flaking out on him. I figured that since he called several times after he already had the money that he was legitimate and I offered to purchase the second ticket for my friend.

I called several times to follow up and each time he had a plausible reason for delaying. It’s now three days since his last response or acceptance of a call. I looked up the name that appeared on caller ID (Samantha Gallick) and his name and got numerous hits from scam reporting sites such as this.
