They advertised books that were 5 for a dollar and no shipping cost. I was charged way over the amount due. They won't let me cancel my membership either. I've tired customer service and no one responds.

- Like many others, my girlfriend is caught up in this scam. Doubleday continues to send books that she hasn't ordered and continues to deduct money from her card. The main issue is there is no way to contact customer service directly to cancel a membership. They provide no contact number nor do they have a website to access for this type of issue. Is there anyone who had this problem and found a solution short of cancelling the credit card?

I had the same thing happen to me. Their phone number is listed on your
bank account where they post the charges. You can call them. They tell you the shipping is free and then you find out you have to sign up and join free shipping.com and pay them in order to get a 15.00 rebate to cover the shipping charges for the doubleday book club. I found the number on my bank account and called. Told them it was false advertising and demanded they cancel the account and put the money back into my account or I would contact the attorney general and report them. They did and then I called free shipping.com and cancelled them also. I hope this helps. -
